"Bill" Powell - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal March 11, 1966 W. F. "Bill" Powell Dies Wednesday In Vicksburg Hospital; Services To Be Conducted At Methodist Church W. F. "Bill" Powell, long time member of the Madison Parish Police Jury died in a Vicksburg hospital Wednesday (3/9/1966) night. Funeral services will be from the Tallulah Methodist Church, today (Friday) at 4 P. M. with Rev. Clark Bell officiating, assisted by Rev. John Kilpatrick of Alexandria. Burial will follow in Silver Cross Cemetery. Mr. Powell formerly owned Powell Motor Company, Powell Tractor Company and Madison Tensas Tractor Co. He was born in Utica, Miss., December 31, 1905, where he was reared and educated. After completing his education in Utica, Mr. Powell came to Tallulah in 1922, where he began his business career as a grocery clerk. Later on he worked for G. P. Blair as bookkeeper and assistant. In 1927 he joined the Delta Investment Company of Dundee, Scotland, which owned large tracts of land in the area. In 1941 he sold the remainder of the company's land to C. H. Murphy of El Dorado, Arkansas. During the next two years he helped Mr. Murphy establish the Ashley Plantation on this land. When this was accomplished he joined Mr. Murphy in an oil exploration business, which they operated together until after the Delhi Field was discovered. He was a member of the Madison Parish Police Jury for 28 years, and Honorary member of the State Police Jury Association. A member of the Methodist Church. On Democratic Central Committee of Madison Parish, Madison Parish Citizens Council, member of state Board of Directors of Citizens Council. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Powell. He is survived by his widow, former Jacqueline Ostrocky of Vicksburg; one son, Richard Powell of Monroe; one step son, Ronald Black of New Orleans; six grandchildren; one brother, C. E. Powell, three sisters, Mrs. Ruth Patterson, Miss Hazel Powell and Mrs. Baxter McDonald all of Tallulah, and a number of nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers will be J. G.
