All rights reserved. ************************************************************************************************ Mabel Clair Placke - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Vicksburg Post, September 8, 2008 TALLULAH — Memorial services for Mabel Clair Placke, age 92, of Tallulah, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008, at First United Methodist Church in Tallulah. Visitation will be Tuesday evening, Sept. 9, 2008, from 5 until 8 p.m. at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home of Tallulah. Mrs. Placke passed away Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, at the Madison Parish Hospital after a lengthy illness. Burial will follow at Silver Cross Cemetery. Mrs. Placke was born June 16, 1916, in Valley Park. She grew up in Tallulah and graduated from Tallulah High School, where she was valedictorian. She received a bachelor of arts degree in English from Northwestern State University, where she was also valedictorian, and a master of arts degree in library science from LSU. Mrs. Placke taught English and oversaw the library at Tallulah High School. She later become the librarian for Madison Parish until her retirement and served on the Madison Parish Library Board for a number of years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school. She was also an accomplished artist who specialized in oil paintings of magnolias and charcoal drawings of various scenes. Many of her works are hanging in homes in Madison Parish. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry William Placke; her parents, E.H. Lancaster Sr. and Willie G. Lancaster; and her brother, Donald B. Lancaster. She is survived by her sons, Allan L. Placke and wife Pam of West Monroe and Dale L. Placke of Tallulah; her daughter-in-law, Susan Placke of West Monroe; grandchildren, Jennifer Placke Prentice and husband Jimmy of Birmingham, Ala., Jason Placke of Baton Rouge, Greg Placke and Valerie Placke, both of West Monroe; and a brother, Edgar H. Lancaster Jr. and wife Beverly of Tallulah. Pallbearers will be Kent Lancaster, Hunter Lancaster, Michael Lancaster, Jimbo Sevier, Johnny Wilkins and George Batchelor. The family would like to personally thank Dr. Leonard P. Neumann for his care and medical treatment during her lengthy illness, as well as Doris Fountain, Jamie Barry, Lorene Harrison and Pauline who cared for her during her illness.
