Dr. Howard Sevier, coroner of this parish, stated that Mr. Peterkin shot himself through the heart while alone at the home of his niece, Miss Ward. Miss Ward, a teacher in the Tallulah High School, found the body when she returned home from school that afternoon. It was stated that she noticed that the house had been left unlocked, and thought it possible that it had been burglarized. She went inside cautiously and examined her room first. Finding nothing disturbed, she went to other parts of the house and found Peterkin's body on the floor of her brother's room, Francis Ward. The shooting was attributed to despondency. Mr. Peterkin was out of work at the time of his death. He had worked several years in Monroe, but before leaving Tallulah several years ago was at one time a clerk in the Ziegler-Darrow Company store here. At one time he was connected with a hotel in Shreveport. Mr. Peterkin was well liked both here and in Monroe, where he was well known, and had many friends among the traveling public who were shocked at his death. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. S. B. Bettis and Mrs. J. V. Sevier, Sr., of Tallulah, and one brother, Fred Peterkin. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning from the Williams Funeral Home and interment was in the Silver Cross cemetery.
