Will Northern -
Madison Parish, Louisiana
From Tri-City
Herald – Kennewick, WA February 27, 2016
The Lord
graciously dispatched His angels in the early morning of February 20, 2016 to
bring Will Northern on home to rest. Will was born on July 17, 1936 to Percy
Northern and Cornelius Carter in Tallulah, Louisiana. He was raised by loving
parents and under the careful guidance and influence of his grandfather.
Throughout his school years he gained a love for learning and enjoyed many
subjects especially math. Will joined and served in the United States Army from
1955 to 1957 during the integration of minority soldiers. He served post WWII
in displacement camp in Babbenhaussen, Germany.
After
moving to Washington, Will met the love of his life, Barbara Butcher. Their
courtship led to Will asking her father for her hand in marriage. Will and
Barbara celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2011. Will was a caring
husband for 54 years. As a loving father, he took pride in his children. Will
consistently emphasized the importance of education and regularly encouraged
his children to do and be their very best. His sound words of wisdom and loving
guidance will forever be imprinted in our hearts and minds. Will enjoyed
fishing, camping, and gardening. Barbequing was another favorite summertime
activity enjoyed by family and friends. He was a great Pit Master and freely
shared his tips and techniques with his family. Will was a Mariners baseball
fan through and through. He enjoyed a variety of other sports as well. Will's
work ethic was steadfast. He emphasized the importance of work not only in
words and guidance to his children but he also modeled it through his own
actions.
He began
his work career in construction working on various projects including Ice
Harbor Dam. He moved on and secured employment at Westinghouse Hanford which
later became Flour Daniels working in facilities and operations. His ambition,
strong work ethic and personal drive led him to take advantage of various
trainings and certification programs. He progressed his way up the career
ladder to become a certified Chief Power Operator and then on to be a part of
administrative management. He retired after 28 years of dedicated service. He
was highly respected for his leadership and depth of knowledge of his work in
so much that he was asked to come back after his retirement.
He is
preceded in death Percy Northern, Father, Cornelius Kinsey, mother, Jeff
Kinsey, stepfather, two brothers and two sisters.
