Montgomery - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Vicksburg Evening Post, January 10, 1936 TALLULAH HOTEL MAN SUCCUMBS TALLULAH, Jan. 10 - W. A. Montgomery, 60, died here Wednesday night after an extended illness. He was a native of Watertown, NY, but had resided here for the past fourteen years coming here from Vicksburg. He had been proprietor of the Commercial Hotel, the Post Inn Hotel and, for the past several years, The Montgomery Hotel. He also operated a service station here. Funeral services will take place from the Montgomery Hotel Friday morning with the Rev. L. A. Matherne of the Tallulah Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Silver Cross Cemetery here. Mr. Montgomery is survived by his wife, two sisters, Miss Rita Montgomery of Watertown, NY and Miss Mamie Montgomery of New York City and two brothers, John Montgomery of Watertown, NY and James Montgomery of Philadelphia. The pallbearers are D. H. Allen, J. E. Neill, R. R. Spigner, S. J. Franks, Dr. E. O. Edgerton and A. J. Sevier. From Madison Journal January 10, 1936 Funeral Services Today For W. A. Montgomery W. A. Montgomery, for 17 years a resident of Tallulah, died at his hotel here Wednesday night after a long illness. Mr. Montgomery came to Tallulah from Vicksburg seventeen years ago, where he was manager of the Woolworth store He was a native of Watertown, N. Y. When he came to Tallulah he and Mrs. Montgomery began business here as operators of the Commercial Hotel. Later he relinquished the Commercial and operated the Post Inn Hotel, which at that time was known as the Montgomery. It was while he was running the old Montgomery that he found the hotel facilities of Tallulah were insufficient to take care of the trade, and he erected the hotel now known as the Montgomery. After the new hotel had been opened for some time he relinquished the Post Inn, and for several years has operated only his hotel. Several (years ago) Mr. Montgomery was afflicted with rheumatism, and, while at times he would improve, he was never fully recovered, and for several months prior to his death he was practically incapacitated. Funeral services will be held this morning (Friday) at 10 o'clock from the hotel. Mr. Montgomery is survived by his wife, two brothers, John of Watertown, N. Y., and Jim of Philadelphia, Pa.; and two sisters, Miss Rita Montgomery of Watertown, N. Y., and Miss Minnie Montgomery of New City.
