All rights reserved. *********************************************************************************************** John Montgomery Madison Parish, LA From The Tallulah Madison Journal (LA), February 19, 1937 Tallulah Man Dies Tuesday In Vicksburg John Montgomery a resident of Tallulah for many years, died Tuesday at a hospital in Vicksburg, at the age of 41, where he had been taken some time ago for treatment. Mr. Montgomery was part owner of the Montgomery Brothers Cleaning and Pressing establishment in Tallulah, which business was under the active management of his brother, Frank Montgomery. For several years Mr. Montgomery has been engaged in the rural carrier service from the Tallulah post office, but for several months has been off duty on account of failing health. He was a member of the Baptist church and of the Scott-Nicols-Voak Post, Tallulah, American Legion. He was a native of Franklin County, Miss. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at ten o'clock from the Baptist church with Rev. Clarence Crow officiating, assisted by Rev. C. K. Smith, Rev. H. N. Alexander and Rev. Geo. A. A. Tocher, of the Methodist, Presbyterian and Episcopal churches, respectively. In-terment was in the Silver Cross Cemetery here, where services were in charge of the officers and members of the Scott-Nicols-Voak Post, American Legion. Mr. Montgomery is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Montgomery, two brothers, Hugh and Frank Montgomery of Tallulah and two sisters, Mrs. R. C. Mize of Brookhaven, Miss., and Mrs. S. P. Daigre, of Leland, Miss. Active pallbearers were J. A. Gilbert, John McBride, W. B. Eisley, C. H. Todd, Myles Hopkins and W. W. Ziegler; Honorary, J. E. Neill, Sr., R. S. Gayle, Dr. H. S. Provine, Dr. A. T. Palmer, Dr. G. W. Gaines, Dr. L. Stevens, Dr. E. O. Edgerton, R. L. Bailey, A. E. Kell, Roy Dale, Don Sevier, L. Saiewitz, H. W. Lee, L. G. Storey, Frances Jordan, Edgar Purnell, of Tallulah, H. W. Hobbs, of Jackson, Miss., and Fulton Flowers, of Eudora, Ark.
