All rights reserved. ************************************************ Nan Sevier McNeel - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Vicksburg Evening Post, January 4, 1968 Mrs. Nan McNeel Dies, Services Set Wednesday TALLULAH-Mrs. Nan Sevier McNeel member of a well-known Madison Parish family died at a Vicksburg hospital today after a long illness. A native of Madison Parish, Mrs. McNeel had lived here most of her life. She lived for a while also in the Philippines and in Mexico. Active in civic organizations, she was former regent of the Tallulah chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, and had held offices in the women's organization of the Presbyterian Church, The American Legion Auxiliary and the Good Earth Garden Club. She was a member of the Tallulah Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her husband, Col. Travis McNeel: three brothers, Mayor W. P. Sevier, Jr., James D. Sevier and Barton Sevier of Tallulah; three sisters, Mrs. W. W. Ziegler, and Mrs. E. E. Warrick of Tallulah and Mrs. Dan Donald of Jennings, La. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Tallulah Presbyterian Church, with the Rev Lyndon Brown of officiating. Burial will be in Silver Cross Cemetery with Crothers Funeral Home in charge. From Tallulah Madison Journal January 5, 1968 Nan Sevier McNeel Dies Early Wednesday After Lengthy Illness Mrs. Travis McNeel, the former Miss Nan Sevier, succumbed early Wednesday morning January, 3, 1968 in a Vicksburg Hospital after a long illness. Mrs. McNeel, beloved wife of Col. Travis McNeel, was active until her illness in church and civic work. She was born in Madison Parish, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Will P. Sevier, on a plantation south of Tallulah, La. Her mother was Ada Graves of Milliken's Bend. She was a graduate of Tallulah High School, and Northwestern State College. She taught school in Madison Parish Schools, before her marriage to Col. McNeel on June, 17, 1929. They lived in Florida and several southern states, and Col McNeel's work took them to Mexico and the Phillipines. She is a past president of Tallulah Chapter D. A. R., past president of Women of the Presbyterian Church and of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Good Earth Garden Club. Services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 P. M. from the Tallulah Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Lyndon Brown officiating. Internment followed in Silver Cross Cemetery, with Crothers Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers were all officials of the Presbyterian Church, C. T. Crow, A. W. Willett, Malcolm Sevier, Jim S. Folk, H. C. Sevier, Jr. and John Simpson. Mrs. Sevier, or Nan as she was affectionately known, was well known in social circles for her charm as a gracious hostess, and her sincere friendship. She is survived by her husband, Col. Travis McNeel, three sisters, Mrs. E. E. Warrick, Mrs. Dan Donald of Jennings, La. and Mrs. W. W. Ziegler, and three brothers, Mayor W. P. Sevier, Jr., James D. Sevier, and Barton Sevier all of Tallulah.
