All rights reserved. ************************************************************************************************ Virginia Mize McGee - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal February 18, 1971 Mrs. Virginia McGee, former WAC, is buried here Mrs. Virginia Mize McGee, first to be ranked sergeant - major in the World War II - conceived U. S. Women's Army Corps, was buried here last Friday, February 12. Mrs. McGee, at 62 a 20-year veteran of the service, saw duty in the European Theater and the Far East. A former school teacher, graduate of Mississippi Women's College at Hattiesburg, Miss., and member of the Baptist Church, Mrs. McGee died February 10 at veterans' Hospital, Jackson, Miss., following a brief illness. Funeral services were held at Crothers Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Crawford Williams officiating. Burial was in Silver Cross Cemetery here. A native of Sumrall, Miss., she had lived in Tallulah for the past seven years. Surviving are five sisters, Mrs. R. S. Gayle of Tallulah; Mrs. S. G. Pope of McComb, Miss.; Mrs. R. W. Stewart of Apalachicola, Fla.; Mrs. Ray King, Brookhaven, Miss.; Mrs. Hubert Beall, of Pineville and a number of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Jack Millikin, Moss Christian, Clay Crawford, Odis Gunn, R. W. Gandy, Jr., H. C. Sevier, Jr., H. S. Weaver and Ilar Osborne.
