All rights reserved. ************************************************************************************************** Reuben McCall - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Madison Journal February 8, 1935 PROMINENT COLORED CITIZEN HERE DIES Reuben McCall, one of the prominent colored citizens of Tallulah, died Wednesday, January 30, after a short illness, at the age of 71. Reuben was for many years a brick mason and had a hand in building most of the older brick buildings in Tallulah. He accumulated considerable wealth in his later years and was responsible for much of the growth in the colored section of town, where he would sell lots, or build and sell residences. The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at St. Matthew A. M. E. Church before a large attendance of friends Speakers at the funeral services were C. S. Barksdale, J. S. Hayes, principal of the Madison Parish Training School, Cleveland Dickson, William Elliard and Charles Hayes. Obituary was given by Ethel James and Rev. A. Pullens preached the sermon. Burial took place in the Tallulah colored cemetery under the direction of Evening Star Lodge No. 113, F. & A. M., (colored) and Starr Lodge No. 953, I. B. P. O. E. of W.
