Lewis - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal, April 27, 1956 Rites Held Sunday For Robert Lewis, Killed In Wreck Robert G. Lewis, 29, was killed instantly in a headon collision between a car and a truck loaded with live poultry early Saturday morning near Thomastown, east of Tallulah. Lewis, an employee in the Louisiana Highway Department survey section, driver of the car collided with the truck driven by R. B. Williams, Ruston, who was uninjured according to police, but damage to his truck was estimated at around $1,500. Lewis' car was demolished. The crash occurred at 3:15a.m. The accident occurred on Highway 80 between Tallulah and Vicksburg. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p. m., Sunday at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Will Jones officiated, assisted by Rev. J. H. Hamilton. Burial followed in the Silver Cross Cemetery under direction of Crothers Funeral Home. Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. E. Lewis, Tallulah; one brother, Edward L. Lewis, Tendal; one sister, Mrs. W. E. Sanders, Port Gibson, Miss.; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Mattie Tate, West Monroe; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Mattie Lewis, Waverly. Pallbearers were Emmet Lancaster, Stanley Harmon, LaRue Harmon, Orian Hattaway, Curtis Seiley and Salo Abrahm.
