Keller - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal September 26, 1952 Tallulah Loses One Of Best Citizens, Richard L. Keller Tallulah lost one of its best citizens last week when Richard L. Keller, 52, died Thursday morning, September 18. He died while he was sleeping; it is said, Mrs. Keller discovering his death when she went to his bed to call him for his customary morning coffee. He had been in ill health for a long time, spending several months in hospitals in both New Orleans and Vicksburg. He returned to Tallulah from treatment in a Vicksburg hospital, several weeks ago, apparently improved though still in a very weakened condition. And, the night preceding his death he had gone to church with his wife. Mr. Keller was a native of Iron Gap, Tennessee and had resided in Tallulah for the past 40 years. He was a member of the Church of Christ, Lions Club, Louisiana Firemen's Association and the Tallulah Fire Department for 25 years, serving as chief of this department since 1942. He had always taken an active part in all worthwhile civic movements and at the time of his death was head of the firm of Keller, Bros., handling GMC trucks and Pontiac automobiles for the Tallulah area. Funeral services were conducted at 4:30 Friday, September 19, at the Church of Christ, with the Rev. John W. Howell, officiating. Burial was in Silver Cross Cemetery, under the direction of Young's Funeral Home. Mr. Keller is survived by his wife, Mrs. Irma Pruitt Keller; two sons, R. L. Keller, Tallulah, and W. A. Keller, with the U. S. Marines on duty at Ocean Side, Calif.; three daughters, Mrs. M. A. Abernathy, Vicksburg, Miss.; Mrs. D. C. Waters, Galveston, Texas ; Mrs. J. W. Morrison, New Orleans ; his mother, Mrs. W. A. Keller, Tallulah, a brother, Claude Keller, Tallulah; and a sister, Mrs. R. P. Grimes, Tallulah, seven grandchildren. Pallbearers were: Jack Lott, Henry Roy, J. V. Panquin, Garland Robinson, George Townsend, Will Harvey, Ernest Stocks and J. C. Dykes. Honorary pallbearers were: All members of the Tallulah Fire Department and members of the State Firemens' Association.
