Pickle Funeral Home, Amory, MS February 8, 2010 Tupelo—James Edward Hetland, 86, died Saturday, February 6, 2010 at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Born October 18, 1923 in Milnor, ND, he was the son of the late Edward and Florence Hetland. He later lived in Clear Lake, IA before moving to Louisiana at age 14. He was married to Louise Ashley; she died in 1981. In 1985, he married Velda Addington Stoddard who survives and later moved to Amory. He was a member of the Cornerstone Family Fellowship Church. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Marine Corps from 1943-1945 in the Pacific area obtaining the rank of Sergeant. He worked at Oliver Electric in Vicksburg, MS and Chicago Mills in Tallulah, LA. He also worked as a security guard. He enjoyed reading. Services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at the E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with Bro. Malcom Tidwell, Bro. Murray Galloway, and John Ward officiating. Burial will be in the Haughton Memorial Park. Survivors include his wife, Velda Hetland of Amory; two sons, Tommy Hetland (Kay) of Montrose, AR and Ashley Hetland (Pamela) of Richmond, ME; three stepsons, Rodney Stoddard (Pat), Larry Stoddard, and Bobby Stoddard all of Amory; a son-in-law, Grant White of Longview, TX; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; and two daughters, Sherry Dianne Hetland and Margo Hetland White. Pallbearers will be Ricky Barnett, Bonnie Bennett, Anthony Brown, Josh Bennett, David Tidwell, and Bro. Roy Foster, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Glenn Tackett, Jim Wiginton, A.B. Brooks, Billy Hill, Otis Summerford, Tommy Strevel, and Ronal Reich. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home.
