Harris - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal, January 15, 1960 Madison Resident Dies Tuesday In Vicksburg Funeral services were held in Vicksburg Wednesday morning for William A. Harris, 78, father of Mrs. John W. Carpenter of Madison Parish. Mr. Harris died Tuesday in a Vicksburg convalescent home following a long illness. Dr. R. A. Tullos, pastor of the Bowmar Avenue Baptist Church of Vicksburg officiated, assisted by Rev. A. B. Pierce of Tallulah. Burial was in the Cedar Hill Cemetery Mr. Harris was born in Hinds County and moved to Vicksburg in 1916. He owned and operated the W. A. Harris Grocery Store in Waltersville and retired six years ago. He moved to Madison Parish near Tallulah, where he lived until time of his illness. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Mary E. Harris of Tallulah; two daughters, Mrs. John Loviza, Vicksburg, and Mrs. John W. Carpenter, Tallulah; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Thomas Harrell, Mrs. O. M. Green, Mrs. R. A. Slater and Mrs. Grace Bankhead, all of Vicksburg, one niece, Mrs. Fred Schober of Vicksburg and one nephew, Cecil Blankhead of Vicksburg. Pallbearers were Fred Lee, Charles V. O'Conner, O. J. Bori, Jr., Dave Muirhead, Troy H. Anderson, all of Vicksburg, Miss., Leo P. Loviza of Monroe, La., Murray Wynn of Jackson, Miss., and Lester Buford of Edwards, Miss. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. William Johnson, Dr. Hugh Johnson, Dave Kennedy, T. J. Chisholm, Sam Caston, Jr., W. H. Houston all of Vicksburg; Watson McDonald of Delta, La., G. T. Shepherd and M. A. Verhagen of Tallulah.
