Double Funeral Held Thursday

There was a double funeral in Tallulah Thursday, December 4 for of Richard Monroe Gould, and his daughter, 
Mrs. Edith Gould Baker. Mrs. Baker died in Chicago, Ill. on November 28. She is a former graduate of 
Presbyterian College in Holly Spring, Miss., and taught school in Sondheimer La., one year prior to her 
marriage to Col. G. C. Baker, of Chicago. At the time of Mrs. Baker's death she was owner and operator 
of a dancing school in Chicago,

She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Richard M. Gould, and one sister, Mrs. Dewitt Duncan, both of Sondheimer.

Pallbearers for Mrs. Baker were Gus Eakers, Frank Steward, Fred Gilley, Pratager Byrd, Lamar Byrd 
and Pete Russell.

Richard Monroe Gould, 72, Mrs. Baker's father, died Wednesday morning at 10:20 in a Delhi clinic from 
heart trouble. He has lived in Sondheimer for the past 27 years. He is a former timber man for the Sondheimer 
Lumber Company. After working for the Sondheimer Lumber Company he purchased a plantation, he was also a 
member of the Woodmen of the World.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Josephine Evans Gould; one daughter, Mrs. Dewitt Duncan; three brothers, 
Jesse J. Gould, Lake Providence ; Frank Gould, Springfield, Mo., and Archie Gould, Morton, Miss.; one sister, 
Mrs. Edna Rand Ransdell, Gulfport, Miss., and six grandchildren.

Funeral services for father and daughter were held at the First Baptist Church in Tallulah Thursday afternoon 
at 2 p. m., with the Rev. Shirley Briggs officiating. Interment followed in the Silver Cross Cemetery under the 
direction of Young Funeral Home of Tallulah.

Both bodies lay in state at the church from 12 noon Thursday until time for the funeral.

Pallbearers for Mr. Gould were Cecil Meachem, Eugene V. Parker, Earnest Stewart, Gus Flurry, 
W. J. Wilson and Earnest Givens.
