GILFOIL TALLULAH. La., April 14-Funeral services for James H. Gilfoil, 84, one of the oldest citizens and a leading planter of Madison parish, who died in a Vicksburg hospital Sunday were held from St. Agnes Catholic church here Monday afternoon Rev. F. J. Flute, the local priest officiating, assisted by Rev. De Vriendt, a former priest of this church. Interment followed in Silver Cross cemetery here. Mr. Gilfoil, a pioneer citizen, who was born and lived his entire life at Omega, eleven miles north of Tallulah, had always been active in civic and political life of Madison parish and served as assessor from 1888 to 1892. He was a devout member of the Catholic church. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Kate Currie Gilfoil, two sons, W. R. Gilfoil of Omega and J. H. Gllfoil, of Lake Providence, assistant district attorney of this district, and a daughter, Sister Scholastica, of Greenville who was Miss Alice Gilfoil and eleven grandchildren, Will Gilfoil of Shreveport, James, George and Misses Eula and Eliza Gilfoil of Omega, Mrs. W. F Montgomery of Ruston, Miss Helen Gilfoil, Mrs. George S. Hopkins, Mrs. B. R. Burgoyne, Jim and Pilcher Gilfoil, of Lake Providence and four great grandchildren. The pall bearers were A. J. Sevier, Dr. George S. Hopkins, Dr. B. R. Burgoyne, J. F. Montgomery, J. M. Gilfoil, W. S. Gilfoil, James Gilfoil and J. H. Gilfoil, Jr. From Tallulah Madison Journal April 17, 1936 Old Resident Of The Parish Dies Sunday Morning Jas. H. Gilfoil, Sr., one of the oldest residents of Madison parish, passed away Sunday afternoon at the Vicksburg Sanitarium after being ill for some time. At the time of his death Mr. Gilfoil was 84 years of age and had been a resident of Madison parish all his life, having been born on the Monegal plantation, which place at the present time is operated by his son, W. R. Gilfoil. Death came to Mr. Gilfoil at 3:45 Easter Sunday morning. Mr. Gilfoil lived his entire life at Omega, the place of his birth, and was one of the leading planters of the parish besides being interested in the civic and political life of the parish. He was assessor from 1888 to 1892. Funeral services were held Monday morning from a Requiem Mass at St. Agnes' Catholic Church, Tallulah, and interment was in the Silver Cross cemetery. Pall bearers, all of whom were his sons or grandsons, were W. R. Gilfoil, of Omega, J. H. Gilfoil, Jr., of Lake Providence, J. M. Gilfoil, of Lake Providence, J. H. Gilfoil, 3rd, of Lake Providence, Dr. Bert Burgoyne, of Lake Providence, and W. S. Gilfoil, of Bossier City. Mr. Gilfoil is survived by his wife, Mrs. Kate S. Currie Gilfoil, one daughter, Sister Mary Scholastic, of Greenville, who was formerly Miss Alice Gilfoil, two sons, W. R. Gilfoil, of Omega, and J. H. Gilfoil, of Lake Providence, eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
