All rights reserved. ************************************************************************************************ Carl Bruce Gaumnitz - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal, August 17, 1962 Killed Last Saturday; Knocked off Tractor Funeral services for Carl Bruce Gaumnitz, who was killed on his twelfth birthday last Saturday, when a plane taking off at his father's airport knocking him off tractor which he was driving, into blades of the mowing machine, held at 4 p.m. at the Tallulah Methodist Church, last Sunday. The Rev. Wilson Watson officiated with burial following in the Silver Cross Cemetery, under the direction of Crothers Funeral home. According to reports the youth was mowing the runway when a crop-dusting plane's left wheel hit him in the back, knocking him from tractor and into a triple rotor "bush hog" implement, slashing him to death. John Earl Martin of Tallulah was identified as the pilot. Reports said Martin could not see boy until after the mishap. Gaumnitz Airport is just outside of the city on the east, and used primarily by crop-dusting aircraft. Carl was a Tallulah seventh grader and a member of the Methodist Church here. He is survived by his parents, and Mrs. Bob Gaumnitz, a brother, Freddy Gaumnitz and a sister Cathy Gaumnitz, all of Tallulah; maternal grandparents, Mr. Mrs. Manfred Gustafson, Tallulah; and paternal grandparents, and Mrs. Fred Gaumnitz, California. Pallbearers were Dick Brown, Bruce Clark, T. A. Smith, Bill ???? and Tommy Leoty.
