Paul Gaines - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal, June 23, 1961 R. Paul Gaines, Lifelong Resident Dies Sunday Robert Paul Gaines 72, died in his home Sunday morning after a lingering illness. Mr. Gaines was a native of Rockwood, Tennessee, but had made his home here for the past 65 years. He was the son of the late Dr. George Gaines. He was a retired postal carrier of two years, and had been employed at the Post Office for 36 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. Funeral services were held at 3:00 P. M. Monday at the First Baptist Church of Tallulah with the Rev. Garden Hamburger assisted by the Rev. J. H. Hamilton. Interment followed at the Silver Cross Cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Home. He is survived by his wife, Helen C. Gaines; 2 sons, Senior Master Sergeant John C. Gaines of Toule,France now serving with the U.S. Army, and Dr. R. Paul Gaines. Jr. of the Panama Canal Zone; a daughter, Mrs. Claude Dooly of Monroe, La.; one sister, Mrs. R. C. Leeves; six grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Gaines Byram, Jack Ward, Dick Horn, Claude Grimes, Robert W. Gandy, Ernest Givens, Louis Buckner, Clark Brown, W. A. Covington. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. H. E. Kelleum, Dr. A. Street, C. E. Goss, Jerome Minsky, Lester Saiwitz, Myron Erwin, Ira H. Erwin, E. H. Erwin, Jr., Alton Shows, R. E. Russ, Crayton Laughman, W. A. Smith, Wesley Reardon, Johnny O'Shea, John Burchardt, M. A. Wroten, and Jim Goza.
