The man was identified as Jackie Eakes, 47, 119 Oak St., Tallulah, according to a spokesman for the Tallulah Police Department. According to witnesses, Eakes apparently walked into the path of a car driven by a 15-year-old Tallulah girl, the spokesman said. He said Eakes was thrown about 40-45 feet off Bayou Drive, in front of Tallulah High School. The spokesman said Eakes was found about halfway down the hill to the bayou. He was taken to Madison Parish Hospital but was later transferred to University Medical Center in Jackson, Miss., where he died, a hospital spokesman said. The police spokesman said the incident was accidental and said no charges were filed. From Tallulah Madison Journal, December 10, 1986 Services for Jackie Lee Eakes, 47, were at 2 p.m. Thursday at Crothers Funeral Home chapel in Tallulah with the Rev. O. B. Robertson officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery in Tallulah. Mr. Eakes died Monday at University Hospital in Jackson, Miss. after an automobile accident. He was a native of Philadelphia, Miss., a resident of Tallulah for the past 37 years, was a house painter, roofer and member of the Baptist faith. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Ann Eakes of Tallulah; two sons, Dewayne Eakes of Philadelphia, Miss., and Jackie F. Eakes of Tallulah; one daughter, Donna Eakes of Tallulah; two brothers, Jeff Eakes and John D. Eakes, both of Tallulah ; one sister, Geraldine Everhart of Tallulah; one grandson. Pallbearers were Jonathan Harris Jr., Clem Tullos, Jim Tamburo. James Rash, Billy Rash and Don Moore.
