Devine - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Vicksburg Evening Post September 18, 1943 JOSEPH H. DEVINE OF TALLULAH DIES, FUNERAL TODAY TALLULAH, La., Sept. 18-(Special)-Joseph H. Devine, who had been ill for some time, died Friday at his home in this town. He was born in Vicksburg on May 29, 1867, and came to Madison Parish to make his home nearly 40 years ago, engaging as a planter in the Eighth Ward and also serving on the Police Jury. After moving to Tallulah he became owner and manager of the Devine Seed Store and also was local manager for the Buckeye Cotton Oil Company of Jackson and Little Rock. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and of the Masonic fraternity. Mr. Devine is survived by his widow, Mrs. Augusta P. Devine; by two sons, Harrie Hue Devine of Macon, Ga., and Delma D. Devine of Tallulah; by two sisters, Mrs. Lena Price of Vicksburg and Mrs. Ellie D. Galwitz of Little Rock, and by four grandchildren and three nieces. Funeral services will be conducted at 4:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon in the Tallulah Methodist Church by the pastor, Rev. Henry Rickey and by Rev. J. D. Maurer, rector of the Episcopal Church. Interment in Silver Cross cemetery.
