The fatal accident occurred about 9 o'clock Friday night. A passing motorist discovered the wreck and the injured men. Day died within a few minutes after his Ford coupe crashed into the truck. Lynch and Lott were taken to Vicksburg and taken to the Vicksburg Sanitarium where it was found that Lott had both legs broken and was cut and bruised about the body, while Lynch was crushed about the chest and was also badly cut and bruised. The victims of the accident were returning to their home in the Quebec neighborhood from school when the accident occurred. It is believed that rain blown by a heavy wind prevented the driver of the car from seeing the truck which was parked on the side of the road. The Ford was moving rapidly and dashed into the truck with terrific force, completely wrecking the car. It was said that Day sustained a fractured skull and other injuries from which he died before aid could be secured. His body was taken to the Williams Funeral Parlors in Tallulah from which the funeral was held the following day. The boys and their families are well known in Madison Parish and news of the fatal accident spread quickly and a crowd soon gathered at the scene on the highway before the body could be removed and the two injured boys rushed to the Vicksburg Sanitarium. The victims of the accident were all popular students in the Tallulah High school and deep regret was expressed in Tallulah as soon as the accident became known. Tom Kaiser, owner of the truck, and George Townsend, who was operating the truck just before the accident, were arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter. Several witnesses said that the truck had not been provided with proper lights after being parked on the highway due to a breakdown. They were charged under a recent law relative to the operation of motor vehicles. Recent reports from Lynch and Lott are that they have a chance of recovery, however, it is doubtful that one of them will lose a leg.
