Davis - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal September 28, 1945 Virgil H. Davis Passes Away After Sudden Illness Virgil H. Davis, 51 years old, died at a Vicksburg hospital Tuesday morning of a cerebral hemorrhage. He was stricken at his home here at noon Monday and was taken to the Vicksburg hospital after the attack. He had recently recovered from another attack of illness when he was confined to bed for some time. Mr. Davis was manager of the Madison Parish Compress which was erected here several years ago by Memphis interests associated with some local capital. He managed the Compress several years as well as the Madison Parish Gin, which was owned and operated in connection with the Compress. Later this concern bought out the Tallulah Compress, a local concern, and after that date Mr. Davis was manager of the entire concern. He was a member of the Tallulah Rotary Club, the Scott-Nicols-Voak Post of the American Legion, the Methodist church, the Masonic Lodge and the Forty and Eight. He was born at Houston, Miss., and came here from Texarkana, Ark. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Tallulah Thursday morning at 10 o'clock with Rev. John F. Kilpatrick officiating. Interment was in the Silver Cross Cemetery here. Mr. Davis is survived by his wife, three daughters, Miss Billie Davis, a former teacher of the Tallulah High School; Miss Mary Jo Davis, a student at Louisiana State university, and Betty Lou Davis, Tallulah; a brother W. R. Davis, Maulden, Mo., and three sisters, Mrs. W. E. Blackburn, Forest City, Ark., Mrs. S. M. Hall, Houston, Miss., and Mrs. A. J. Mathews, Russellville, Ark.
