Dee Oval Cox - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal April 10, 1996 Lt. Col. Ret. Dee Oval Cox, 89, of Tallulah, died Saturday, April 6, 1996, at his residence in Tallulah. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Monday, April 8, in the First Baptist Church of Tallulah with Rev. John Rushing officiating. Burial was in the Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home. Mr. Cox received a B.S. in civil engineering from L.S.U. and while there he was the captain of The National Championship ROTC Rifle Team. He worked for Civilian Conservation Corps and an oil exploration company before joining the military service in World War II. He was an intelligence staff officer in the Western Pacific Theater. He was decorated with The Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Three Bronze Stars, American Theater Ribbon and Victory Medal World War IL After World War II, he worked for U.S.D.A. Soil Conservation Service and retired in 1972. He was affectionately known as the "Singing Engineer," because he used song as a means of communicating with God. Mr. Cox was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tallulah. He was preceded in death by his wife Corinne Underwood Cox of Tallulah. Survivors include three daughters, Dorothy Dee Haden of Shreveport, Vivian Lei Scott and husband Walter of Tallulah, Florence Elizabeth Kennedy and husband Ronnie, also of Tallulah; six grandchildren, Elard Lee Haden III, Walter M. Scott IV, Shaune Dee Scott, Chad Dee Morgan, Wiley Lee Morgan, Katie Fondren; one great-grandson, Wiley Lee Morgan III. Pallbearers were Elard Lee Haden, Scotty Scott, Chad Dee Morgan, Wiley Lee Morgan, Michael Abendroth and Barksdale Airforce Honor Guard. Honorary Pallbearers were Shorty Williams, H. R. Nelson, Theo Watson. Memorials may be sent to the First Baptist Church or Madison Parish Council on Aging.
