All rights reserved. ************************************************************************************************ Bessie Alnutt Cason - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal, February 17, 1967 Bessie Alnutt Cason, Oldest Madison Parish Resident Dies Suddenly Wednesday Morning, Feb. 15th Mrs. Bessie Alnutt Cason, died suddenly Wednesday morning, February 15, 1967 enroute to the Madison Parish Hospital, after celebrating her birthday, 87 years on Monday of this week. Bessie Alnutt was born at Kelloggs Landing, south of Tallulah on the family plantation, which was later absorbed by the mighty Mississippi River. In her girlhood here in Madison Parish, she was known as a beauty of the area, and until her death maintained her sunny and friendly disposition. She had many friends of a lifetime and is kinsman to a number of the older citizens of Madison Parish. In 1901 she married James Lee Cason in Trinity Episcopal Church, of which she was a member. The church at that time was on North Cedar St. and has since been torn down. She is survived by three devoted daughters, Mrs. Albert Sherwin, Mrs. Ellen O. Fortner and Mrs. Carolyn C. Coad, all of Tallulah and five grand children and seven great grandchildren. Mrs. Cason had been Worthy Matron of the Tallulah Chapter of the Eastern Star and was a member of The Tallulah Book Club for many years and a member of the Episcopal Church. Services were held at Trinity, prior to internment in Silver Cross Cemetery, with the Rev. William Harrison officiating in the services of the church. Crothers Funeral Home was in charge of Internment. Pall bearers were: R. C. Todd, W. Z. Adams, J. C. Sherwin, A. N. Duke, W. W. Ziegler, C. C. Adams, T. B. Bradley, H. C. Sevier, Jr. and Mr. Art Gilliland.
