All rights reserved. ************************************************************************************************** Mary Humble Burleigh - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal April 9, 1948 Funeral Services For Mrs. Mary Burleigh Field Tuesday Funeral services were held Tuesday for Mrs. Mary Humble Burleigh, 52, who died Sunday night at a Vicksburg Hospital. She had been a resident of Mound, La., for she past twenty-seven years, and had been a teacher in Madison Parish for twenty-five years, having retired in 1947 due to ill health. Mrs. Burleigh was born in Columbia, La., on December 25, 1895. Prior to her marriage to Mr. Hubert William Burleigh, who died in January of this year, Mrs. Burleigh was a resident of Monroe, La. Services were conducted from the Tallulah Presbyterian church Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock. Rev. Mansell, pastor of the Vicksburg Presbyterian church, officiating. Interment followed in the Vicksburg Cemetery. Active Pall Bearers were : Joe Canizaro, Dan James, William Boyd, E. C. Woodyear, Ed Yerger, Joe Clark, George Yerger, Jr., James Davis. Honorary Pall Bearers: Dr. George Street, Dr. Lucian Ferris, George Gunby, Dr. Edley Jones, B. P. Folk, L. P. Cashman, Sr., Dr. George Webb, Dr. L. J.; Clark, Andrew Yerger. Mrs. Burleigh is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Sallie Burleigh Hayes ; her mother, Mrs. Sallie Humble of Monroe; two brothers, John Humble of Monroe; Robert Humble of Shreveport ; one sister, Miss Sallie Humble, Monroe, and one grandson, William Burleigh Hayes. Mrs. Burleigh also had a son, Hubert William Burleigh, Jr., who was killed in action in 1944 while serving as a sergeant with the U. S. Army in Germany.
