William Ellis “Bill”
Buckner passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2020, at the age of 91, at Legacy
Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Tallulah, Louisiana, after a long illness.
Born in Tallulah on October 12, 1928, he was the youngest of Edward Aylette and Sallie Ellis Buckner’s three sons, all of whom
preceded him in death.
After
graduating from Tallulah High School and Louisiana State University, he served
as staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force (HQ Strategic Air Command).
In
Tallulah, he managed Delta Supply Warehouse, Buckner Home Care Center and the
Tallulah Truck Stop. He was active in the American Legion Post 100 and Madison
Voluntary Council on Aging.
In
addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane
Workman Bodron Buckner; brothers, Edward Aylette Buckner, Jr. and Louis Buckner, Sr.; nephew, Edward
A “Bucky” Buckner, III; and niece, Georgie Buckner.
Uncle
Bill will be greatly missed by his surviving nieces and nephews and their
families: Carolyn Routh Buckner Hall (Jerry), William
Percy “Billy” Buckner (Cherry), Sue Ellen Buckner Whitaker (Danny), Louis
Buckner, Jr. (Billy Jean Morgan), Nathan Ellis Buckner (Cindy), Janie Clare
Buckner Fabre (Kent), Elizabeth “Beth” Buckner Shelton (Mark), Harry Nadler
Buckner (Julie); fifteen great nieces and nephews, thirteen great-great nieces
and nephews; and two step-children.
Graveside
services will be at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, April 25, 2020 at Natchez City Cemetery
in Natchez, Mississippi, with Pastor Kent Fabre officiating under the direction
of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home.
Pallbearers
will be nephews, Billy Buckner, Harry Buckner, Danny Whitaker, Josiah Fabre,
and Simeon Fabre.
