Brown - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Vicksburg Evening Post November 12, 1947 RITES TOMORROW FOR VICTIM OF GUN ACCIDENT Madison Parish Farmer Victim Of Hunting Mistake TALLULAH, La., Nov. 12 — Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a. m. at the Crothers Funeral Home for Richard S. Brown, Madison Parish farmer who was accidentally shot to death while hunting yesterday. The Rev. J. D. Maurer, rector of the Episcopal Church in Tallulah will officiate, and burial will be in the family cemetery at Delhi, with Masonic rites at the grave. Mr. Brown, 30 years old, was hunting with a companion, Robert A. Word, Jr., near his home six miles west of Tallulah when the accident happened. Dr. E. O. Edgerton, parish coroner, quoted Word as saying that he mistook Brown for a deer in deep undergrowth and fired. One shot hit the victim, and he died a few minutes after being rushed to a hospital in Vicksburg for treatment. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Noble Brown, and two sons.
