All rights reserved. ************************************************************************************************ Shirley Briggs - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal, December 4, 1959 Former Pastor, Shirley Briggs, Dies Suddenly The Reverend Shirley Briggs, former pastor of the First Baptist Church here, and pastor of the Ferriday Baptist Church, died suddenly Friday night at St. Joseph where he had gone hunting. Rev. Briggs collapsed at the home of friends after he had been in the woods and had pushed his stalled automobile. Besides being pastor here, He was the pastor of the First Baptist Church in Ferriday for the pasts six years and was former pastor at Jonesville and St. Joseph. He is former vice president of the Louisiana Baptist Convention. He was secretary of the State Baptist Brotherhood. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Shirley Briggs, a daughter, Miss Gloria Briggs all of Ferriday; his mother, Mrs. Pauline Briggs of Pineville; two brothers, and a sister. Funeral services were held at 11 a. m. last Sunday at the Ferriday Baptist Church with burial following in the Roselawn Cemetery at Baton Rouge at 2 p. m. Pallbearers were deacons of the church.
