All rights reserved. ************************************************************************************************ Howard Jefferson Bowlin - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal, October 16, 1975 Two killed, one injured in automobile accident Two 28-year old men were killed around 12:57 a.m. Sunday in a one-car accident on U. S. 80 four miles west of Tallulah, state police reported. State police said the bodies of Carl E. Harris of Tallulah and Howard Jefferson Bowlin of Sondheimer, were taken to Crothers Funeral Home of Tallulah. Earnest Bolton of 106 Magnolia St., Tallulah, also a passenger in the automobile, was taken to Vicksburg Hospital where he was listed in satisfactory condition. He was later moved to a Jackson hospital and is reported to be in serious condition. According to state police reports, the automobile driven by Harris was traveling east when the car went out of control and struck a tree. No additional information was available pending further investigation of the accident. Funeral services for Mr. Bowlin were held Monday in Willow Bayou Baptist Church in Tallulah with the Rev. W. H. Remore officiating. Burial was in Silver Cross Cemetery at Tallulah. Bowlin was a native of Wisner, a resident of Madison Parish for 18 years, a Vietnam War veteran and was employed as an automobile mechanic. Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James H. Bowlin of Sondheimer; two brothers, Arnold Bowlin and Billy Bowlin, both of Sondheimer; one sister, Mrs. Margie Taylor of Tallulah; and three nieces. Pallbearers were W. J. Mercer, Walter Cobb, Rod Cobb, Clinton Johnson, Wayne McKnight and Lenard McKnight. Funeral services for Mr. Harris were held Tuesday at Crothers Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. E. T. Williams officiating. Harris, who was also employed as an automobile mechanic, is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan Harris of Tallulah; his widow, Mrs. Glenda Harris of Tallulah; one son, Carl E. Harris Jr. of Tallulah; five brothers, Paul Harris of Ruston, Jonathan Elbert Harris, Willie Harris, Gene Harris, and Wesley Harris, all of Tallulah; three sisters, Mrs. Stella Long, Mrs. Debbie Shingler and Mrs. Sandra Lopez, all of Tallulah; three nephews and one niece. Pallbearers were Billy Rash, Donald Hale, Allen Hale, Billy Ray Miles, Dewayne Whittington and Jerry Cockerham.
