Mary Ellen Hopkins Bowen passed away peacefully on November 26, 2014. Born on November 21, 1923 in 
Wilkinson County, Mississippi she lived in the Jackson area most of her life. She enjoyed cooking, 
spending time with family, gardening, and watching the Atlanta Braves.Survivors include her four 
daughters and sons-in-law, William and Linda Thurman of Canton; Howard and Mary Rael of Houston; 
John and Trudy Barrett, and Bob and Connie Clay of Madison; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; 
and three siblings, Josephine Kapke, Katy Frey, and Rhada Hopkins.

She was preceded in death by A.C. Bowen, her husband of 60 years; her grandson, William Curtis Thurman; 
four great-grandchildren; and her parents, William and Carrie Hopkins.

A memorial service will be at 3:00 p.m. on November 29, 2014 at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland, with a 
visitation beginning at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Ministries at 
450 Towne Center Blvd., Ridgeland, MS 39157.
