All rights reserved. ************************************************************************************************ Annette Beers - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal, June 19, 1959 Final Rites Held For Miss Annette Beers The death of Miss Annette Beers, long time and beloved citizen of Tallulah, grieved a host of friends here Saturday. Her death occurred in the Winnsboro, La. nursing home at eleven-thirty Saturday evening. Miss Beers was 85 years old. She was born January 25, 1874 in Natchitoches, La. Her father was Dr. Robert Walker Beers and her mother was before her marriage, Miss Louise Boissat of New Orleans, La. She had one brother, whom she survived, Mr. Eddie Beers, prominent banker and businessman here for many years. She is survived by her devoted cousin, Mrs. Horace Lee and her daughter, Mrs. Catchings Smith of Jackson, Miss., and another cousin, McWhorten Beers of Laurel, Miss. Miss Beers taught school in Tallulah for many years, she was a graduate of Louisiana Normal College at Natchitoches, Louisiana. After her retirement from school teaching she taught her beloved subject, music, for many years and had a host of devoted friends among her pupils. She was active in her church work and was organist for many years of Trinity Episcopal Church. She is a past president of the Tallulah Book Club and Music Department and this year was an honorary member of both. She lived most of her life at her home on Mulberry Street and the many courtesies shown her by her friends and neighbors attested to her sweet and generous character. Prayer family services were held at the Crothers Funeral Home with the Rev. Mr. W. S. Spilman officiating, and the Church Funeral services were held at Trinity Episcopal Church Sunday afternoon at three-thirty. The Rev. Mr. Spilman conducted the services here and at the cemetery following. Altar flowers were from Miss Beers' cousin, Mr. and Mrs. Catchings Smith. Pallbearers were Mr. W. L. Rountree, Mr. Don Sevier, Mr. Will Clark, Mr. Joe M. Clark, Mr. George Marshall Weaver, Mr. W. W. Ziegler, Mr. W. P. Sevier and Mr. Woodrow Cagnolatti. As befitted the final services for a lover of music, background organ music was rendered at both services.
