Baum, who made her home at Fortune Fork some 15 years ago and will be remembered by many in this community, died Thursday morning, October 1, in Englewood, California. Mrs. Baum, who was 82, was a member of a widely known Mid-South family. The former Annie Atherton Amis, Mrs. Baum was born on Banner Plantation in Madison Parish. As a girl, she attended school in Holly Springs, Miss., and was graduated from the Columbia Institute in Columbia, Tenn. She later studied music in Paris, France, and Dresden Germany. In 1895 she was married to F. M. Schas, and lived in Memphis, Tenn., until her husband's death in 1910. Mr. Schas was a Memphis banker. Following his death, Mrs. Schas moved to Louisiana, and in 1917 married Mr. Baum. The couple had lived in Englewood 10 years. Mrs. Baum was a talented pianist. She was an Episcopalian, and while in Memphis was active in St. Mary's Cathedral. She had been ill two years. She leaves her husband; two sons, D. F .M. Schas of Memphis, and Col. W. D. F. Schas (USA, Ret.) of El Paso, and five grandchildren, Mary Pauline Schas, Dora Ann Schas, Daniel F. Schas, Gretchen Schas and Gwyn Schas, all of Memphis.
