Mamie Nell Batchelor Madison Parish, LA

December 3, 1930 - June 22, 2017

Mamie Nell Batchelor, age 86, passed away on Thursday, June 22, 2017, at the Madison Parish Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Her parents were Isaac Oswald Boatner and Sarah Irma Dorsey of Harrisonburg, Louisiana. Mrs. Batchelor was also born in Harrisonburg, Louisiana, and she moved to Tallulah in the 1950's with her first husband, Thomas Adrel Brulte. They had three sons, Jeffrey Kevin Brulte, Gregory Boatner Brulte, and Mark Thomas Brulte, whom all survive Mamie Nell.

Following the death of Thomas Adrel Brulte, Mamie Nell married George Madison Batchelor, who had previously lost his wife Margaret Jean Callahan (Peggy). George and Peggy had four children, George Madison Batchelor, Junior, Michael Stuart Batchelor, Helen Marie Batchelor Grissom, and Mary Kathryn Batchelor Hamilton, all of whom also survive Mamie Nell.

In 1969, George and Mamie Nell combined households and their home on Tampa Street became known as "Grand Central Station". It was a whirlwind of activity, with friends and relatives participating in many activities, including basketball, ping-pong and swinging on the backyard rope swing.

Mamie Nell Batchelor has ten grandchildren, Anna Elizabeth Brulte, George William Thomas Brulte, Katherine Joan Brulte, Saylor Adrel Brulte, Aralin Amanda Brulte, Hannah Margaret Grissom, Kelly Taylor Grissom, John Mitchell Hamilton, Leah Batchelor Lane and Matthew Stuart Batchelor. Also, there are three great-grandchildren, Jett Lane, Chase Lane and John Jamison Hamilton. In addition, Mamie Nell is survived by her beloved cat, Rita, who showed up at the house during Hurricane Rita. The cat will soon reside in Southern California, where there are rarely hurricanes.

The family is very appreciative of the excellent medical care provided by Dr. Pop Neumann, his office staff, the Olive Branch Senior Care Center, and the caring professionals of Madison Parish Hospital. They all treated Mamie Nell just like a family member, as did her local friends and neighbors.

Funeral services will be Sunday, June 25, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church of Tallulah. Visitation will begin at 2 pm with the service at 3 pm. A graveside service will follow at Memorial Park.
