All rights reserved. *********************************************************************************************** Berry Chapman Abernathy - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Monroe News-Star December 21, 1967 TALLULAH (Special) — Graveside services for Dr. Berry Chapman Abernathy, 87, were held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Silver Cross Cemetery here with the Rev. Joseph Harrison officiating. Dr. Abernathy died Monday night in a Jackson, Miss., hospital following a short illness. He was a practicing physician in Louisiana for 54 years and was director of the Madison Parish Health Unit for 10 years. Dr. Abernathy was a native of Ray [sic Rhea] Springs, Tenn. Survivors include one son, Gains G. Abernathy, Las Vegas, Nev.; five daughters, Mrs. Mary Ryall, Mrs. W. C. Keyes and Mrs. W. G. McCleave, all of Jackson, Miss., Mrs. Clara Stava, Lexington, Ky., and Mrs. R. E. Jaycox, Bradford, N.H.; two brothers, John Neal Abernathy of Lexington, Ky., and Wallace Abernathy of San Francisco, Calif.; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
