MILTON JOSEPH WOMACK, SR., Mar. 11, 1926 – Dec. 4, 2003 Born March 11, 1926, in Baton Rouge, he died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at 10 p.m. in Baton Rouge of heart arrhythmia at 77 years of age. He was a general contractor and founder of Milton J. Womack Inc. A graduate of Baton Rouge High School, Milton Womack attended LSU in Baton Rouge. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, and for his profound impact on so many lives. Survived by his wife, Margaret Champagne Womack; daughters, Sherrill Lane and husband Tom, Barbara Womack, and Anne Carville and husband Steve; and son, Milton J. Womack, Jr. and wife Ellen. Also survived by his stepchildren, George G. Griffon III and wife Jodi, Rene Griffon Morris and husband Dedric, Lance Griffon, Anyce Griffon Naegele and husband Matt and Duane Griffon. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, Camille Palmer, Caroline Lane, Malcolm Lane, Archer Lane, Stephen N. Carville Jr., Claire Carville, Joseph Carville, Nicholas Carville, Riley Womack, Hannah Womack, Ashlyn Womack, Mary Katherine Womack, Beau Griffon, Georgia Griffon and Cole Naegele. Pallbearers will be Joseph James Carville, Stephen Normand Carville Jr., Duane Joseph Griffon, George Gustave Griffon III, Lance Champagne Griffon, Malcolm Taylor Lane, Thomas Archer Lane, and Thomas MacDougall Womack. Preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara "Tita" Sevier Womack; parents Floyd and Rose Womack; and brother Floyd "Flop" Womack Jr. Visiting Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visiting at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by the Rev. Miles Walsh. Burial is at Roselawn Memorial Park, with graveside rites conduced by the Marine Corps League. Among the many honors bestowed on Womack include honorary doctorate degrees from LSU and Southern University, Brotherhood Award from the National Conference of Christians and Jews, Golden Deeds Award from the Baton Rouge Intercivic Council, Volunteer Activist Award, Fundraiser of the Year by the National Society of Fundraiser Executives, March of Dimes Real Estate Award and the National Humanitarian Award from the National Recreation and Park Association. He was a member of the Junior Achievement Hall of Fame and the LSU Athletic Hall of Fame.
