Sherrill was a woman of incredible
strength, spirit, and unshakable faith in God. She was the heart of her family.
To all whom she knew, she gave and received love. She graduated from Louisiana
State University, where she was a member of Delta Delta
Delta sorority. As an active member of Trinity
Episcopal Church, she was involved in many activities, including serving as
Senior Warden of the Vestry, President of the school board of Trinity Day
School, Lay Eucharist Minister, and Chair of Parish Life Council. She was most
passionate in her role as a mentor in the Education for Ministry program.
Sherrill was also a member of many other philanthropic organizations, including
Junior League of Baton Rouge, BREADA, and Baton Rouge Green, where she held
leadership positions.
Sherrill is
survived by her husband of 27 years, Thomas Archer Lane; her daughters Camille
Womack Palmer and Caroline Copeland Lane; son Malcolm Taylor Lane and his wife,
Christie, and Sherrill's grandson Shawn Malcolm Lane; and son Archer Cotton
Lane; sister Anne Womack Carville and husband, Steve; brother Milton J. Womack,
Jr. and wife, Ellen; and nieces and nephews Stephen N. Carville, Jr., Claire
Carville Ross, and husband, Allen, Joseph J. Carville, J. Nicholas Carville,
Riley E. Womack, Hannah L. Womack, Ashlyn E. Womack,
and Mary Kathrine Womack.
She is
preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Milton J. Womack, Sr. and her
sister, Barbara Womack.
Sherrill was
supported and loved by many longtime friends. Those who knew her well, often enjoyed sitting on her back porch visiting,
listening to music, and enjoying her beautiful garden. She took great joy in
the recent recognition, Yard of the Month.
Visitation
will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church on Monday, February 8th at 9:30 a.m.,
followed by the service at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made
to Trinity Episcopal Church or the .
