The November 2006 meeting of the Lafayette
Genealogical Society was held in the
Meeting
Room of the Main Branch of the Lafayette
Public Library on November 16, 2006
at 6:30
P.M. The meeting was called to order by President
Jean Kiesel. A moment of silence was observed, followed
by the Pledge of Allegiance. Visitors were introduced; Lance Kimball reported
to the membership that he has his deceased
wifes genealogy books that he needs
to dispose
of and is offering them to the society
membership. Lorraine Ault was introduced as a new member.
In regard to the vacancy of the Vice-President for the 2007 officers, Pat Snyder was nominated
for that office. It was seconded and she accepted the nomination. The following officers for 2007 were elected:
President Charles Patterson
President-Elect Earl Gates
Vice President Pat Snyder
Secretary Brenda Fuselier
Treasurer Warren LeBlanc
Charles Patterson reported that he and Earl
Gates are developing several PowerPoint
presentations
for the society that will be demonstrated
at meetings in 2007.
The Christmas Banquet will be held December
6, 2006 at the Petroleum Club beginning
at
6:00 P.M. Warren LeBlanc reported that the CDs of
Les Memories are completed and will
be distributed
there.
The Ancestral Footprints Conference evaluation
was presented and discussed. Suggestions
included having the conference every
two
years and possibly not having a syllabus. Dottie Burleigh, as chairman of the conference,
expressed her appreciation to all members
for the assistance they gave.
Lona Bourque brought the Society scrapbook
and has it available for members to
look
at.
Jean Kiesel reported that the Multicultural
Festival in St.Martinville was successful considering
it was the first one. Our booth was in a good location and many
people stopped to look at the posters
of
old pictures, talk of their families,
and
take family and pedigree charts.
Pedigree and Family Charts have been created
by Charles Patterson and Earl Gates
with
our name and e-mail address on them
to be
distributed when and where needed. It was suggested that all who sign in at
the Genealogy Section of the library
be sent
a mail-out offering assistance and
thanking
them for using the genealogy section
of the
library.
There being no further business, the meeting
was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Brenda Fuselier
