The Minutes of the 15 June 2006 Meeting

 The June 2006 meeting of the Lafayette Genealogical Society was held at Grace Presbyterian Church, 518 Roselawn Blvd., Lafayette, LA on June 15, 2006 at 6:30 P.M.  The meeting was opened with an introduction by President Jean Kiesel of Phyllis Granger of the business �Absolutely Irresistible.�  She presented a sample of a woven afghan featuring a monogrammed family tree.  Her calling card gave her phone number as (337) 280-3254, or the business can be reached at www.absolutelyirresistiblela.com.
President Jean Kiesel introduced Bill Stafford from the Louisiana State Archives located in Baton Rouge, LA.  He spoke on the genealogical material available at the archives and the assistance available from the staff; a handout was given to those members present.  He looks forward to guiding members of the society through the archives when our July meeting takes place on Saturday, July 22, 2006 for a field trip to the State Archives for a tour and for members to do personal genealogical research.  Members can e-mail at www.sos.louisiana.gov for questions and information.
Earl Gates reported on the brochure that is being developed for the Ancestral Footprints Conference to be held on Saturday, October 21, 2006 at Grace Presbyterian Church.  Members evaluated it, made suggestions, and discussed cost.
Charles Patterson encouraged all members to look at our web site and the new pictures on it.  More pictures are always welcome; stories, too, to go with pictures are welcome.
The trip to the State Archives will take place on Saturday, July 23, 2006.  Members will meet at the Northgate Mall under the large sign designating the Northgate Mall at 7:30 A.M.  We will then carpool to Baton Rouge for the 9 A.M. opening of the Archives.
Glenda Shaw reported on speakers for the Ancestral Footprints Conference. Jean has is developing a speaker�s contract to be sent to all speakers for their commitment to speak at the Ancestral Footprints Conference.  It was noted that Harold Prejean has notified area genealogical societies and they will need to be sent a brochure when it is printed.  Libraries and other historical groups need to be informed of the conference also.  James Bourque will notify members of CAFA.
