The  April 2008 meeting of the Lafayette Genealogical Society was held in the Meeting Room of the Main Branch of the Lafayette Public Library on April 17, 2008 at 6:30 P.M.  President Earl called the meeting to order.  There was a moment of silence and the Pledge of Allegiance was given.
The minutes and treasurer�s report are posted on the internet at our web site.
Visitors were recognized as Kermit Barbier who is researching the Bourque, Hulin and Olivier line.  Lynn Schumaker is researching the Landry line.  Jessie Hislop and her mother from Canada were visiting Acadiana researching James Lytle who lived in the area for 30 years c. 1848-1870; Jessie gave members some pointers about researching Canadian sources on the internet. Angie Hurley was welcomed as a beginner to genealogy. All were encouraged to become members of the society; all present members were encouraged to pay their dues for 2008.
James Bourque announced that on April 22, 2008 at the Acadian Memorial Building in St. Martinville a team from New Brunswick, Canada will be visiting to speak on activities, housing, and schedules of Congres Modiale Acadiane 2009; this meeting will begin at 6:30 P.M.  James also announced that at Festival Internationale being held next week in Lafayette the LeBlanc family will have an information booth set up to offer information on Congres 2009 on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, April 21-23 from 5 to 9 P.M. next to the Fais-Do-Do stage.
Donald Arceneaux, residing in Idaho, but a member of our society, and using an extensive family chart talked about his Broussard-Arceneaux family line and the frequency of relationships within that family tree.
All members of the Lafayette Genealogical Society were encouraged to submit their Pedigree Chart, Family Group sheets, information and pictures for the annual and/or our web site.
The Louisiana Genealogical and Historical Society Conference will be held in Baton Rouge Saturday, April 26,2008 at Embassy Suites with registration beginning at 8 A.M.  For those interested in going, we�ll meet at the Northgate Mall sign about 7 A.M. to carpool.  Claire Mire Bettag will be one of the speakers.
Earl Gates presented the program,� Finding Your Ancestors in Court Records.�  Handouts were available to members.
