The October meeting of the Lafayette Genealogical Society was held on October 16, 2014 in the Meeting Room of the South Regional Library, 1601 Johnston Street at 6:30 P.M. The meeting was called to order by President Brenda Thibodeaux. There was a moment of silence to remember our servicemen, the Pledge of Allegiance followed. All were welcomed and guests were recognized.

President Brenda Thibodeaux gave an update on the annual End of Year Banquet. As announced at the last meeting, the Banquet will be held on December 6, 2014 at Bailey's Restaurant at 12:30 P.M. The cost will be $22.00 per person including tax and tip. Reservations and payment are now being accepted by Warren LeBlanc in order to get an estimate of the number of people attending. There was a discussion as to whether or not to do away with the regularly scheduled Saturday morning workshop that day. Calice Breaux motioned to cancel the workshop and it was seconded by James Bourque. The motioned passed without opposition. There will be no workshop held on Saturday morning December 6, 2014.

Linda Broussard, Regional Branch Manager of the Lafayette Library spoke to the group indicating that the elevators at the Downtown Library had been approved by the Fire Marshal enabling them to set dates for the furniture movers. The Library Renovation should be finished and the Library reopened soon.

President Brenda Thibodeaux then announced the names recommended by the nominating committee of the slate of officers for the 2015 year. They are: Herb Scheuermann, President; Calice Breaux, Vice-President Elect; Brenda Fuselier, Vice-President; Warren LeBlanc, Treasurer; and, Kathy Pellerin, Secretary. There were no nominations from the floor. A vote was taken and all were approved.

President Thibodeaux stated that the officers meet informally at CC's on Mondays at 9 am. Herb Scheuermann, President-Elect then passed around a list of committee's he would like to implement and asked everyone to sign up for one of them. They include Publicity, Membership, Publications, Electronic Multi Media and Education. He explained that participation was the backbone of any successful organization and would like to see everyone involved.

President Thibodeaux announced that the work at St. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Scott had begun and was looking for volunteers to help finish the project. The work of charting can be done independently. She also talked about the trip to Joy Youngblood's home and how impressive a collection of family artifacts Joy has.

Before our speaker for the evening, Dr. Julie Frederick, ULL Professor of History and ULL's Director of Honors Program, gave her talk on the Basque Connection in the New World, President Brenda Thibodeaux announced that the November speaker would be Dr. Mark Reese, Director of the New Acadia Project, speaking on the archeological digs in and around Loreauville, La. She also announced that there will be a meeting of the Federation of Genealogy Societies in Salt Lake City, Utah and passed around information to those requesting it.

There being no further business a motion to dismiss was made. The motion was seconded and the meeting was adjourned.
