Volume 2010 Issue 4 The Minutes of the April 15, 2020 https://sites.rootsweb.com/~lalgs/ APRIL 15, 2010 LAFAYETTE GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY MEETING The Lafayette Genealogical Society held a regular meeting April 15, 2010 at the downtown library. Present were James and Lona Bourque, Dorothy Burleigh, Eric Castille, Viola Fontenot, Brenda Fuselier, Earl Gates, Pete Lavergne, Warren LeBlanc, Gloria and Jim Peterson, Rogers Romero, Glenda Shaw, Barbara Thibodeaux and Brenda Thibodeaux, William Thibodeaux, Everett Thompson, and librarian Sam Lollar. President William Thibodeaux called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm and conducted the opening ritual asking those present to rise for a moment of silence in tribute to our servicemen and women who protect us, for the families that have gone before us, and the infirm. This was followed by a pledge to the flag of our country. All members were welcomed as well as special guest Jan Risher. She is a weekly columnist for the Daily Advertiser. She read a selection of stories she has written about some of her family members. One of the stories was about the Australian Bride�s Train. After a brief recess Earl Gates showed pictures of the Henry G. Wooldridge Monuments in Mayfield, Kentucky. He discovered this fascinating cemetery several years ago when researching his wife�s family. The cemetery has 18 life size statues of members of Henry Wooldridge family. It is known as "THE STRANGE PROCESSION WHICH NEVER MOVES". It was erected in the late 1890's by Colonel Henry G. Wooldridge who raised, raced, and sold horses in the Mayfield County area. He never married after his first and only love died in a riding accident years before in Tennessee. About 1880, as Col. Wooldridge neared 60 years of age, he moved to Mayfield, where he lived until his death on May 30, 1899. Both the stories by Jan Risher and the Mayfield cemetery generated interesting comments from members. The secretary and treasurer�s report were deferred to the web site. The very successful and well-attended extra meetings scheduled at the new library in the computer room to help members with their genealogy were mentioned. This coming Saturday there will be a guided tour of the St. Martinville cemetery by all who choose to participate. The upcoming genealogy program on April 24 in Baton Rouge was mentioned as well as a program in Lake Charles featuring Roland Standsbury who spoke to our club earlier. Rogers Romero moved the meeting be adjourned, seconded by Earl Gates. William Thibodeaux thanked all for attending the meeting and bid a safe trip home.
