1855 Letter of Title

    Tooley's P.O. Concordia Parish
    State of Louisiana
    12 May 1855

Received of Robert M. Dale the sum of
fourteen hundred and fifty dollars in full, for two
negroe [sic] slaves, Viz.  One a negro man named Joshua
aged about 34 years.  purchased by me the undersigned
May 24th, 1849, from James Cotton, Esq. of the Parish.
[?] Pointe Coupee La.  As said Cottons bill of 
sale of said Slave to me will more fully show.
The other a negro woman wife of said slave
Joshua, aged about 39 years. Purchased by one
the undersigned September 13th 1855 of Wm. Elija 
and Wm. Stephen W. McDonald in the City of Jeffer-
son near New Orleans La.  As this bill of sale 
of said negro woman Louisa will more fully
set forth.  The above named slaves Joshua and
Louisa are now and have been in the possession
of said Robert M. Dale ever since 1852.  I
warrent [sic] said Joshua and his wife Louisa to be
sound in body mind and slaves for Life.
Also I warrent [sic] the Title to them, against
all lawful claims whatever, unto Robert
M. Dale his heirs or assigns forever.
Given under my hand and Seal this 12th
Twelfth day of May AD 1855.
