Mrs. Ruby Richards of Dalton has been informed by the War Department that her son, Cpl. James Zack RICHARDS, 22, Sixth Division Marines, was killed May 21 in action on Okinawa. Cpl. Richards was awarded the Purple Heart last April. He had
participated in five major engagements. He entered the armed forces in September, 1942, went overseas in February, 1943,
and had not been home since entering the service. Cpl. Richards graduated from the Dalton high school with the class of 1940.
He is survived by his mother; one brother, John Neitz Richards; and two sisters, Miss Edith Richards and Mrs. Curtis DAVES

S-Sgt. William Paul RICHARDS, 24, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Richards, near Beulah, was killed in a plane crash in Mississippi
last Thursday. Sgt. Richards was a flight engineer on a C-46. He had served in Alaska and the Aleutians and was stationed at
Ft. Benning, Ga. He graduated from Dalton high school in 1936. Survivors are the parents; wife, Ruth; two brothers, Logan
Richards of Madisonville, and A.O. Richards of Dalton; and a sister, Mrs. H.G. McMICAN, Detroit, Mich. Funeral services were
held at 3:30 p.m. Monday in Beulah church, with the Rev. W.T. CRUMBAKER of Madisonville offficiating. Military services were
conducted by Company L, Kentucky Active Militia, Madisonville, and members of Beulah Masonic lodge conducted the burial

Joe Thomas RICHARDSON, 78, died at 9:50 a.m. Monday at his home on Highland avnue. He was a retired farmer. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. J.O. ANDERSON, Providence, and Mrs. Elva PEASE, Colorado Springs, Colo.; two sons, Carlos of Paoli, Ind., and Corbin of Providence; 18 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Fannie HOLMES of California, Mrs. Alma VAUGHN of New York, Mrs. Monroe PARRIS of Marion, and Mrs. Eager VAUGHN of Salem; and two brothers, Gilmore of Marion and William of Salem. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Tapp Funeral Home, with the Rev. R.H. RILEY officiating. Burial was in the family cemetery in Livingston county, near Salem.

Ellis R. RIDDLE, 58, of Providence, died at 6 p.m. Tuesday in a veterans' hospital at Ft. Thomas after a long illness. He had been a patient in various veterans hospitals for nearly two years. Survivors are the wife, the former Mrs. Martha REYNOLDS, Providence; a sister, Mrs. Etta THOMPSON, Morganfield; three brothers, George and Gammon Riddle, of Morganfield, and James Riddle , Shelburn, Ind.; stepsons, James, William, Oscar, and J.D. Reynolds, Providence; and stepdaughters, Mrs. Carl SIGLER, Mrs. Goldie DAVID, and Sallie Reynolds, Providence. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield. Mrs. Bertha V. RIDEOUT, 71, died at 2:45 p.m. Monday at her home near Dixon following a short illness of measles. Surviving are the husband, S.M. Rideout; a son, Bobby; one sister, Mrs. Bub Branson; and one grandson, all of Dixon rural route. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rock Style Church, with the Rev. E.G. SISK officiating, assisted by the Rev. Charles POLLEY. Burial was in Rock Style cemetery.

Bub RIDEOUT, 69, died at 5:30 a.m. Sunday at his home in Wheatcroft following a stroke Friday night. Surviving are the wife, Delia;
one daughter, Miss Ruth Rideout, at home; one brother, Lucien Rideout of Henderson; and one sister, Mrs. Alice CAVANAUGH of
Paducah. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Clay General Baptist church, with the Rev. E. G. SISK officiating. Burial

James Carl RIGGIN, 63, died at 4 p.m. Friday at his home in the Liberty section. He was a veteran of World War I and a retired
farmer. Surviving are the wife, Ruth; a son, James W. Riggin, Central City; a granddaughter; two brothers, Luther of Madisonville and
Homer of Pulaski, Tenn.; a half-brother, Jasper Riggin of California; and three sisters, Mrs. Layton BLANKENSHIP, Manitou rural
route, Mrs. Roscoe FREDERICK of Madisonville, and Mrs. Hayden TERRY of Dawson Springs. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m.
Sunday at Star Hope Church, with the Rev. Oscar DUNCAN of Madisonville officiating. Burial was in Star Hope Cemetery. Nephews

Mrs. Lydia RIGGS, 70, of Pride, formerly of Webster county, died at her home at 2:20 p.m. Saturday following an illness of six weeks. Surviving are the husband, Linus Riggs; a son, John H. POTTS, near Clay; a daughter, Miss Lilly White Riggs, of Pride; and two sisters, Mrs. T.C. RAYBURN, Clay, and Mrs. Felix CRANOR, Boonville, Ind. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Bordley church, with the Rev. WITT of Nashville officiating. Burial was in I.O.O.F. cemetery in Bordley.

Paula Elaine RIGGS, two-months-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Riggs, died Sunday in the Naval Air Base Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. Survivors besides the parents are grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Riggs, and Mrs. Ernest DUNCAN, of Sebree. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Methodist Church in Sebree, with the Rev. Edward HENRY officiating. Burial was in Springdale cemetery, Sebree.

RILEY, 63, who was born and reared in Providence, died Sunday night at his home in Birmingham, Ala., of a heart attack, according to word received here by his brother, Clifford Riley, near Dixon. Riley was employed by Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company. Funeral and burial were in Birmingham.

Peter Caswell RILEY, 68, of Madisonville, formerly of Providence, died at 5 p.m. Wednesday in Hopkins County Hospital in Madisonville. Survivors are the wife, Estella; a son, James H. Herbert A. RITZ, 80, retired plasterer, died at 8:30 a.m. Friday at his home in Slaughters. Surviving are three sons, Carl, Ennis and Lee Ritz and a granddaughter, Linda Lee Ritz, all of Slaughters Route 2. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Pleasant church. The Rev. T.O. KYLE of Onton officiated, assisted by the Rev. J.E. HARTFORD, the Rev. L.F. PIERCY, and the Rev. A.N. YANCY of Slaughters. Burial was in Springdale cemetery, Sebree.

Mrs. Ida Jane ROBERTS, 78, former resident of the Rock Springs community near Wheatcroft, died at 9:30 p.m. Saturday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Verdya WILSON, in Cerulean. Mrs. Roberts, widow of W.R. Roberts, had been a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church for many years. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Wilson of Cerulean, Mrs. Jessie RHOADS of Dearborn, Mich., Mrs. Nancy J. McCLANAHAN of Sullivan, and Mrs. Rosa B. SIGLER, Dixon; sons, Ed Roberts of Chicago, Ill., and Coney WOODRING of Kansas; a brother, E.O. MABRY, Evansville; grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rock Springs church, with the Revs. BURTON of Cerulean, SIZEMORE of Sullivan, and Raymond HAZEL of Rock Springs officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Jodie G. ROBERTS, 43, formerly of Providence, died at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Sears, Roebuck store in South Bend, Ind., where he was employed. Death was attributed to a heart attack. He had gone to South Bend three years ago from Peoria, Ill., where he had lived for a number of years. He served with the Air Force in India during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion, Masonic lodge, and First Baptist Church in Mishawaka. Survivors are the wife, the former Onita VOGEL; his mother, Mrs. Leona Roberts, Peoria, Ill.; a brother, Louis T. Roberts of South Bend; and a sister, Mrs. Cordie B. PHILHOWER, Peoria. Funeral services were held Wednesday after in a Peoria funeral home, with the Rev. W.J. BRIDGES, pastor of Mishawaka First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was in Peoria.

Mrs. Mary Catherine ROBERTS, 78, died at 10:50 p.m. Tuesday at the
home of a daughter, Mrs. Etta POLLEY, near Clay. She is survived by
two daughters, Mrs. Polley and Mrs. Denny POWELL, both of Clay, Route
1; a son, John Roberts, Smithland, thirteen grandchildren, and four
great-grandchildren. Funeral and burial services were held this
morning at Crowell cemetery, with the Rev. J.R. KING in charge.

Surviving are the husband, Bartie; two daughters, Mrs. Perry BELL, of Ocala, Fla., and Mrs. Elbert RAY, of Providence; one brother, Roy JONES, of Evansville; and one sister, Mrs. Cora JOHNSON, of Evansville. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Methodist church, with the pastor, the Rev. S.R. GILLIAM, officiating. Burial was in Lakeview cemetery.

Wilbur H. ROBERTS, 87, died at 11 a.m. Sunday at his home in Wheatcroft. He was born in Cooksville, Tenn., in 1862 and moved to Kentucky at the age of four years. Surviving are the wife, Mrs. Ida Roberts; two sons, Fred Roberts, Detroit, and Edgar Roberts, Chicago; one daughter, Jessye ALLEN, Detroit; three stepdaughters, Mrs. R.E. WILSON, of Cerulean, Mrs. Rosie SIGLER, of Dixon, and Mrs. J. McCLANAHAN, Sullivan; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rock Springs church, with the Rev. E.G. SISK and the Rev. Raymond HAZEL officiating. Burial was in Rock Springs cemetery.

William Ennis ROBERTSON, 84, died Saturday afternoon at the home of a son, Boyd Robertson, in Clay. Mr. Robertson formerly
lived in Providence. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Eula FOX of Madisonville, Mrs. Bessie DACY and Miss Thula Robertson of
Chicago; three sons, Boyd of Clay, Coyle of Detroit, and John of Dallas, Texas; two sisters, Mrs. Annie OLDHAM and Mrs. Ammie
DAVIS of Evansville; two brothers, Iley and Charlie Robertson of Ballard County; and nine grandchildren. Funeral services were held
at 1 p.m. Monday at Franklin and Edwards Funeral Home in Clay, with the Rev. E.G. SISK officiating. Burial was in I.O.O.F. Cemetery,

Evan B. ROBINSON, 83, died Friday in a Herrin, Ill., hospital where he
had been undergoing treatment for a broken hip. Mr. Robinson was born
in Wales and came to this country when a young man, first locating in
Pennsylvania, and later coming to Providence. He was for many years
connected with mining operations here, for a time being associated
with the Ruckman Brothers, and with his brother-in-law, R.L. FORSYTHE.
Mr. Robinson was married to Miss Belle Forsythe, who died several
years ago. He was a member of the Methodist church, and was active in
attendance during his residence here. He became a naturalized citizen
of the United States. For some time Mr. Robinson had been living with
relatives in Herrin. Survivors are a sister, Mrs. Lizzie HAMILTON,
Herrin, Ill.; and a foster daughter, Mrs. Robert HORNING, Evansville.
A nephew, Evan Robinson, and niece, Mrs. Hamilton, of Herrin,
accompanied the body here. The body was brought Sunday to the S.E.
Montgomery & Son funeral home, where services were held at 10 a.m.
Monday, with the Rev. Joe CALLENDER, pastor of the Methodist church,
officiating. Burial was in Lakeview cemetery.

Melinda ROBINSON, two-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James A. Robinson, died Tuesday of last week at the home in Wichita, Kansas. Surviving besides the parents are a sister, Ora Jerleen; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. G.P. Robinson of Providence and Mrs. Oralee HELTSLEY of Evansville. The body was brought Wednesday to Tapp Funeral Home in Providence. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Primitive Baptist Church, with Elder Gordon HEARON of Clay officiating. Burial was in White Oak cemetery.

J.D. RODGERS, 31, who lived tween Clay and Lisman, died at 10 p.m. Tuesday in an Evansville hospital of injuries suffered Monday in a lumber accident while at work for Frederick Lumber Company, near Clay. He was a war veteran and had sent three years in Korea. Surviving are the wife, Ruth Evelyn; two sons, Jimmie and Jackie; a daughter, Wilma; parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.F. Rodgers, Dixon rural route; two brothers, Robert Louis of Indianapolis, Ind., and W.F. Rodgers, jr., in Korea; two sisters, Mrs. M.E. PRITCHETT of Clay and Mrs. James R. JENKINS of Indianapolis; and grandmother, Mrs. Myrtie Rodgers of Huntington, W. Va. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock this afternoon at Rock Style church, with the Rev. E.G. Ronnie Gene, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl W. ROLLINS of Dalton, stillborn Friday morning in Cardwell's Clinic, was buried Friday

Beverly Howard RONEY, 87, for many years identified with the business life of Providence, died at 3 a.m. Wednesday in his home
on Princeton street. Although in ill health for some time he had been bedfast only for the past several days. Mr. Roney was born
in Tennessee on Sept. 6, 1856, but had lived in Providence for sixty-three years. He was married on May 1, 1881 to Miss Susie
BROWN, whose death occurred on March 2, 1940. His first position here was with the old T.K. Givens and Son store, and when the
elder Mr. GIVENS died in 1897 the company was reorganized into the J.W. Givens Dry Goods Company and Mr. Roney was a member
of the firm. Later he sold out his interest and was associated with R.E. MARTIN in a store, which in 1911 was destroyed by fire.
After that he held positions and financial interests with other stores. For the past eighteen years Mr. Roney had served as
Providence city tax collector. He was oldest member of the First Baptist church and the Providence Masonic lodge. Before ill
health prevented, Mr. Roney was a familiar figure, active despite his years, possessed of an indomitable (unreadable) on going when
others would have given up. Alert mentally, he was intensely interested in and well-informed on, public affairs. He was faithful to any trust placed in him, and was constant in his loyalty to his church, his family, and his friends. Surviving are two sons, J.G. Roney of Dallas,
Texas, and T.K. Roney of Hopkinsville; and three grandchildren, J.G. Roney, jr., William Morris and Nancy Roney, of Dallas. A
son, Garland Roney, died in 1934. Funeral services were to be held at 2 p.m. today in the First Baptist church, with the Rev.
Benjamin CONNAWAY officiating. Members of the Masonic lodge were to serve as pallbearers and have charge of the burial

Mr. and Mrs. J.G. Roney of Dallas, Tex., have been notified that their younger son, Lt. William M. RONEY, 22, was killed in
action in New Guinea on July 30. At the time of his death Lt. Roney was serving with the 349th Night Fighters Squadron, but previous
to this assignment he served as a fighter pilot on a P-40 for eight months in the Aleutians, where he was awarded the Distinguished
Flying Cross for heroic raids over Kiska. Lt. Roney was married on March 1 this year to Miss Alliene TARDY of Dallas. He
was a grandson of the late B.H. Roney of Providence. Providence Journal-Enterprise, Thursday, August 24, 1944.
J.M. ROSS, 83, died at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the home of a niece, Mrs. Carmon MARTIN, near Providence. Mr. Ross, a retired farmer, was a member of White Oak General Baptist Church. He was born in Henderson county, a son of Minerva and E.E. Ross, and came to Webster county as a young man, later moving to Crittenden county. His wife, the former Florence DILL, died in 1910. A daughter died in infancy. Nine nieces and three nephews are the only survivors. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at White Oak Church, with the Rev. Carroll YARBROUGH of Princeton officiating, assisted by the Rev. W.M. FRISTOE. Burial was in White Oak cemetery.

William Harvey ROSS, 70, prominent farmer, died at his home, Providence route 2, at 12:30 this morning after an illness of three weeks with a heart ailment. He had been in ill health for some time. Survivors are two sons, James Ross of Miami, Fla., and Cpl. Chester Ross, U.S. Army, in Korea; nine daughters, Mrs. C.H. HOWARD, Henderson; Mrs. Logan MARTIN and Mrs. Glenn CASNER, Repton; Miss Pauline Ross, Madisonville; Mrs. Carmon Martin, Mrs. Orman Martin, and Mrs. James DUNBAR, Providence; Mrs. Lawrence FOSTER, Louisville; and Mrs. Douglas ENGLISH, Indianapolis, Ind.; one brother, J.M. Ross, Providence rfd 2; 22 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The body is at the home of a daughter, Mrs. James Dunbar, near Diamond and will remain there until time for funeral services. Funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in White Oak church, with a son-in-law, the Rev. C.H. Howard of Henderson officiating. Grandsons will be pallbearers and granddaughters will be flower bearers. Burial will be in White Oak cemetery.

Paul C. ROTH, 52, died at his home on Cedar street in Providence at 5 a.m. Monday, following a long illness. He was a World War I veteran and a member of Clarence McCoy Post of the American Legion. Survivors are the wife, Verna; a daughter, Norma June; a son, Paul C. Roth, jr., Birmingham, Ala.; father, Emory Roth, Nashville, Tenn.; a brother, Eric, Birmingham; and a sister, Mrs. W.W. TATE, Nashville, Tenn. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at White Oak church, with the Rev. C.W. DUFFER officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery, with services conducted by the Legion post.

Mrs. Fred ROWLAND, the former Miss Lida WYNN, died in a Bowling Green hospital Sunday. Mrs. Rowland, the daughter of
the late J.D. and Eliza GIVENS Wynn, was born and reared in Providence. After being away for some time she lived here a short time
several years ago. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Virginia OMOHUNDRO, Washington, D.C.; two grandchildren; three sisters,

Robert Houston ROYSTER, 80, editor emeritus of The Sebree Banner, died at 9:30 p.m. Sunday at the Methodist hospital in Henderson. He had been ill since Friday. At 7:00 p.m. Sunday his condition became critical and he was rushed to the hospital. Death was attributed to coronary thrombosis. Mr. Royster retired on his 80th birthday, Oct. 24, 1949, after more than 30 years as active editor and publisher of the Banner, and turned the paper over to his son, Byron. A native of Henderson county, he came to Sebree in September, 1896, and started a music store. In 1900, he formed a partnership with the late A.G. SELLERS and the Sellers and Royster Company, a mercantile establishment, was formed. The company was burned out on May 11, 1914. The Sebree Herald premises, which were located above the mercantile establishment, also were destroyed. In September of the same year, Mr. Royster purchased The Herald from the late R.M. McGREGOR, changed its name to The Sebree Banner and began business. He was elected state senator from the old fifth district, comprising Henderson and Webster counties in 1931. Mr. Royster was the author of the old age pension amendment to the Kentucky constitution. It was passed by the legislature in 1934 and approved by the voters in 1935 by a half-million majority - the largest on record for a constitutional amendment. Mr. Royster was a member of Sebree Methodist Church for more than 50 years and served as Sunday School superintendent for 35 years. He was president of the Webster County Sunday School Association for 20 years. Surviving are one son, Byron; a sister, Mrs. Virgie McMULLIN, of Williamson, W. Va.; nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Sebree Methodist Church with the Rev. J.R. GUNN, pastor, and the Rev. W.E. SUTHERLAND, of Robards, officiating. Burial was in Springdale cemetery, Sebree.

Peter D. RUARK, 74, retired farmer of Providence Route 3, died July 1 at his home. Survivors are the wife, Lula, and several nieces and nephews. Gus RUDY, 73, who was born and reared in Providence, died at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday at his home in Mayfield. Before his retirement he
was connected for a number of years with Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company. He was married to Miss Annie BOND
of Tennessee, who survives. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Florence RATLIFF of Evansville. Funeral and burial are to be at
2:30 this afternoon in Mayfield. Mrs. Ratliff and Mrs. J.W. SUGG, of Providence, who is a cousin are going to Mayfield for the services.

Mrs. Mary E. RUDY, 89, widow of the late James F. Rudy, died at 12:40
a.m. Wednesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Florence RATCLIFFE,
in Evansville, after an illness of two weeks. Mrs. Rudy, a daughter
of James D. and Mary E. HEADLEY, was born and reared here and lived
here until the death of her husband a number of years ago. Since that
time she had made her home with her daughter. She was a sister of the
late Mrs. J.G. GIST. Mrs. Rudy had been a member of the First Baptist
church here for more than sixty years. Survivors are the daughter,

Providence, around 1 p.m. with a brief service to be conducted by the
Rev. Benjamin CONNAWAY. Pallbearers will be M.C. PALMER, W.B. SNOW,
R.L. PRICE, W.F. HUME, J.C. Sugg and (unreadable).

Marilyn Sue RUSSELL, 11 months and 20 days old, died at 11:50 p.m. Wednesday in the home of her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Claud Russell on Union street. She suffered severe burns Monday by scalding water, and was also ill with
measles and pneumonia. Survivors are the parents; one sister, Mrs. Horace MILLER, Madisonville; four brothers,
William Lawrence, U.S. Coast Guard, Robert, Barry, and Gary, at home; and the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. A.W.
PEMBERTON, Providence, and Mr. and Mrs. William Russell, Milner, Colo. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m.

Mrs. Iona RUSTON, 32, of Clay died at 10 a.m. Friday in the Henderson Hospital following an operation a week earlier. Survivors
are the husband, Albert Ruston; three daughters, Allyne, Glenda Sue, and Beverly Ann, at home; the parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.A.
JONES of Chrisney, Ind.; two brothers, Morris Jones, Jeffersonville, Ind., and Earl Jones, a patient in a hospital in Paris, France;
and one sister, Mrs. Lewis HOCKELMASTER of Dale, Ind. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Methodist

The Rev. W.W. RUTHERFORD, 52, of Hopkinsville, pastor of Ashland Cumberland Presbyterian Church, near Clay, died at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Jennie Stuart Hospital in Hopkinsville. He had been a minister for a number of years and during the past year returned to the Princeton Presbytery after having worked in other Presbyteries. Surviving are the wife; three sons, William of Kansas, Kenneth of Evansville, and Joe, Hopkinsville; his mother, Mrs. Ida Rutherford, Bell's Mines; two sisters, Mrs. Iley NEWCOMB, Sturgis, and Mrs. Herbert SCOTT, Madisonville; a brother, Steve, Sturgis; and one grandson. A brief service is being held at 10:30 this morning at Hengler and Lilly funeral home in Hopkinsville. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 this afternoon at Bell's Mines Cumberland Presbyterian Church, near Sturgis, with burial in the Bell's Mines cemetery.
