Mrs. Lucy MADDEN, 77, who was born and reared in Clay, died at 5 a.m. Saturday in a hospital in Christopher, Ill. Surviving are a
daughter, Mrs. Russell VAN ZANT of Christopher, with whom she made her home; two sons, Tatman MARTIN of Wheatcroft, and
Leek Martin of West Frankfort, Ill.; a sister, Mrs. Alex SHANKS of Arkansas; half-brother, J.W. NALL of Clay; and half-sister, Mrs.
Mag PRICE of Texas. The body was brought Sunday night to Franklin and Edwards Funeral Home in Clay and was removed Monday
afternoon to the home of the son in Wheatcroft. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Rock Springs Church, with the Rev. E.G. SISK

J.T. MADISON, 83, died at 9:50 a.m. Wednesday of last week at the home of a son, B.O. Madison, Madisonville route 4, after ten months of ill health. He is also survived by another son, J.C. Madison, Madisonville; daughter, Mrs. Vernon SMITH, Slaughters; two sisters, Mrs. J.J. TIPPETT and Mrs. John TRICE; one brother, Smith Madison; two half-brothers; one half-sister; and a granddaughter, Mrs. Melvin RUDD, Madisonville route 4. Burial was at 2 p.m. Thursday in Olive Branch cemetery.

Mrs. Minnie Ida MAJORS, 87, of Sebree, died at 10:45 p.m. Thursday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Jessie FLOYD, in Evansville. Surviving besides Mrs. Floyd are two daughters, Mrs. Lillian MELTON of Sebree; Mrs. Katherine HELEY of Evansville; three sons, Leo of Sebree, Charles of Slaughters, and James of Detroit, Mich.; 24 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Springfield Funeral Home in Sebree, with the Rev. B.L. SALE officiating. Burial was in Springdale cemetery, Sebree. Funeral services for Mrs. Leon MELTON MALONEY, 62, of Madisonville, formerly of Providence, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 22, in First Baptist Church in Madisonville. The pastor, the Rev. Harold TALLANT, and the Rev. Benjamin CONNAWAY of Providence officiated and burial was in Lakeview cemetery, Providence. Mrs. Maloney died suddenly in her home at 10:30 p.m. the previous Saturday as result of a heart attack. Surviving are the husband, Cleo Maloney; two daughters, Mrs. Joe FORRESTER and Mrs. William PATTERSON, of Chicago; and a grandson, Bruce Patterson, Chicago.

Maraman, Providence rural route; 22 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Mabel HART of Ventura, Calif.; and four brothers, Norman HOBGOOD of Little Rock, Ark., Fred Hobgood of Malvern, Ark., Guy Hobgood of Arizona, and Clay Hobgood, Lexington. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Nebo Christian Church, of which she was a member, with the Rev. E. G. SISK of Dixon officiating. Burial was in Union cemetery, Nebo.

Charles G. MARKHAM, 88, of Wheatcroft, died at 2 p.m. Friday in Western State Hospital in Hopkinsville. The body was brought to Franklin and Hunt Funeral Home in Clay and later removed to the home of a daughter, Mrs. Ben PEAK, near Wheatcroft. Survivors are the wife, Matt, who is ill at the home of Mrs. Peak; three sons, J. Thomas Markham, Henderson; Lewis J. Markham, Traer Iowa; and W.A. Markham, Evansville; four daughters, Mrs. J. R. WILLIAMS, near Clay; Mrs. Ben Peak, near Wheatcorft; Mrs. Basil TUCKER, Sullivan; and Mrs. Nellie KANIPE, Tama Iowa. Funeral services were conducted at Rock Springs Baptist Church, of which he was a member, at 2:30 Sunday afternoon. The Rev. E.G. SISK of Diamond officiated. Burial was in Rock Springs Cemetery. Mrs. Martha Elizabeth MARKHAM, 89, widow of the late Charles G. Markham, died at 12:30 a.m. Saturday at the home of a step-daughter, Mrs. Ben PEEK, near Wheatcroft, following several weeks' illness. Surviving besides Mrs. Peek are three other step-daughters, Mrs. Pearl WILLIAMS, Clay rural route, Mrs. Nellie KANIPE, of Tama, Iowa, and Mrs. Basil TUCKER, of Sullivan; three step-sons, W.A. Markham, of Evansville, J.T. Markham, of Henderson, and L.L. Markham, of Traer, Iowa. Mrs. Markham was a member of Enon General Baptist church. Funeral services were conducted at Rock Springs church at 11 a.m. Sunday, with the Rev. E.G. SISK, of Diamond, officiating. Burial was in Rock Springs cemetery.

Survivors besides Mrs. Winters are another daughter, Mrs. Cordie PRICE, of East St. Louis, Ill.; two sons, Emmett and Roy, of Henderson; 20 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; and a brother, G.L. JONES, Charleston, Mo. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Little Zion church, with the Rev. W.W. OAKLEY, of Poole, officiating. Burial was in Union Hill cemetery. Grandsons were pallbearers.

Mrs. Ermin MARKS, 72, wife of Andrew Jackson (Bud) Marks, died Friday in a Bicknell, Ind., hospital after a brief illness of heart trouble and paralysis. Mrs. Marks was born in Webster county in 1875, the daughter of John and Elizabeth WILKERSON RUSSELL. She was married to Mr. Marks on Jan. 29, 1895 and moved to Indiana in 1902. Survivors besides the husband are a son, Joe Marks, Clinton, Ill.; a daughter, Mrs. Ola B. SMITH, Kankakee, Ill.; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild. Willie Wilkerson, Dixon, Mrs. Lucy TOWNSEND and E.R. WILKERSON, near Dixon, are cousins. Funeral services were held at the home in Bicknell at 2 p.m. Sunday, with burial there. Mr. and Mrs. Camon Townsend and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Townsend, of Dixon, attended the funeral.

Sebree, Ky. - Myrtle KING MARKS, 97, died at 5:58 p.m. Thursday at Community Methodist Hospital in Henderson. She was a member of Sebree General Baptist Church and a Kentucky Colonel. Surviving are a daughter, Louise EASTWOOD of Sebree; a son Houston J. Marks, of Owensboro; seven grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and great-great-great-grandchildren. Her husband, Jasper J., died in 1974. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Tompkins Funeral Homes Sebree-Poole Chapel, with burial in Springdale Cemetery. He was a former employee of Delker Bros. furniture plant in Henderson, was a member of Dixon Masonic Lodge, and Mt. Lebanon General Baptist Church. Surviving are the wife, Ruby; a daughter, Mrs. Cleatus JOHNSON of Sebree; a son, J.W. (Buster) Marks, Dixon; two brothers, Jasper and Ross of Sebree; and three sisters, Mrs. Willie JONES, Mrs. Georgia GENTRY, and Mrs. Robert HANLEY of Sebree. Andrew Boyd MARTIN, 68, formerly of Clay and Providence, who had been in Mountain Home, Tenn., for some time, died suddenly about 1 a.m. Friday in a Nashville hotel. Death was attributed to a heart attack. Mr. Martin was a retired railroad fireman for Illinois Central Railroad Company. Surviving are a half-sister, Mrs. J.E. COLLINS, of Clay, three nieces, three nephews, and three great-nieces. The body was brought Saturday to Franklin and Edwards Funeral Home in Clay, where funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. The Rev. R.T. MITCHELL of Providence officiated. Burial was in the Fraser cemetery on Highway 85 between Clay and Providence.

Mrs. Dollie Green MARTIN, 64, died at 8:50 p.m. Monday at her home on St. Bernard street. She was a daughter of William and Nancy BYRD of Crittenden county and was married October 9, 1907 to John Walter Martin who survives. She was a member of the Church of God at Blackford. Surviving besides the husband are two daughters, Mrs. Odell WILLIS of Gary, Ind., and Mrs. Herbert GILL of Evansville; three sons, Vernis of Repton, Amos of Providence, and Sgt. Robert C. Martin, Ft. Devens, Mass.; 19 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Nellie METCALF of Marion, Mrs. Finis CHANDLER of Sturgis, Mrs. Dellia Martin of Chicago, Ill., and Mrs. Priscilla MOXLEY of Rossville, Ga.; and three brothers, Aquilla Byrd of Memphis, Tenn., Elgin Byrd of Washington, D.C., and Nathan Byrd of Rossville, Ga. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Enon General Baptist Church in Crittenden county, with the Rev. Herman CAPSHAW officiating. Burial was in Blackford cemetery.

Dr. Elby Dexter MARTIN, 68, formerly of Webster county, died Friday morning in his home in Memphis, Tenn., following a long illness. He was born and reared in this county and had been a dentist in Memphis for a number of years. Surviving are the wife, Mrs. Natalie BIGGS MARTIN; a son, Col. Elby Martin, jr., of the Marines; a brother, Claud Martin, Providence; a sister, Mrs. Ross HOKET, Providence; and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at Norris Funeral Home in Memphis, and the body was brought Sunday morning to Tapp Funeral Home in Dixon. Graveside services were conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at Oak Grove cemetery, Dixon. The Rev. Curtis Martin of Alton, Ill., a nephew, officiated at the services both in Memphis and in Dixon. Pallbearers were Carlos Biggs, Dr. Donald Biggs, Donald INGLE, Dr. Mack RAYBURN, Ernest Martin, Hoket COLE, J.D. Hoket, and David Martin.

Mrs. Grace Howard MATTHEWS, 62, died at 2:30 p.m. Friday in her home on Princeton Street following several months' illness. Mrs. Matthews, widow of the late William S. Matthews, was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Mose HOWARD and was born in Webster County on September 13, 1887. Before her illness she had been for some time manager of the lunchroom at Broadway School. Surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Jennie DRAKE, Hopkinsville; Mrs. Mollie WILSON, Mrs. Allen MELTON, and Mrs. Lillie COWAN, of Providence; and two brothers, Jim Howard and Joe Howard, Providence. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Melton Funeral Home, with the Rev. Charlie Howard of Clay officiating, assisted by the Rev. G.A. HESTER of Providence. Charlie MATTINGLY, 77, died Monday morning at his home in Sebree after a brief illness. Survivors are the wife, four daughters, and one son. Benton W. MAUZY, 86, retired Dixon businesssman, died at 3:30 p.m. Monday in an Evansville hospital. A lifelong resident of Dixon, for the past several years he had made his home with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. M.E. WILKEY, in Providence. He had been postmaster and a merchant in Dixon, and was a member of the Presbyterian Church there. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Wilkey of Providence, Mrs. T.V. FORTENBERRY of Morganfield, and Miss Eva Mauzy of Washington, D.C.; a son, Wayne T. Mauzy of Santa Fe, N. Mex.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Tapp Funeral Home in Dixon, with Howard LAWSON, minister of the Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery, Dixon.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in White Oak church for Herschel MAYES, 30, former Providence resident who was killed on March 14, in an automobile accident in Downey, Calif. The Rev. Rupert UTLEY of Madisonville officiated and burial was in White Oak cemetery. Providence American Legion and VFW posts conducted military rites. He was a Marine veteran of World War II. Hiram H. MAYES, 93, for many years a resident of Shady Grove, died at 9 a.m. Monday in the home of a daughter, Mrs. Robert HARDWICK, in Henderson. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Hardwick and Mrs. Ethel EASLEY, Shady Grove; one son, John Mayes of Princeton; and fourteen grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Baptist church in Shady Grove, with the Rev. Roy THURMOND officiating. Burial was in Shady Grove cemetery. Mary Evelyn MAYES, stillborn infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Mayes of Bowling Green, was buried in the Bowling Green cemetery Friday morning. A short funeral service was held at the grave. The baby was born at 2 a.m. Thursday. Mrs. Mayes is the former Miss Cuba JOHNSON of Webster county and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T.W. Johnson of Frankfort.
