John HARLAND, who would have been 61 years old on October 25, died at
2 p.m. Tuesday, an hour after he sufferred a heart attack in Central
City. Mr. Harland, a native of Hopkins county, lived here for a
number of years while he was superintendent of the Shamrock mine of
St. Bernard Mining Company, later West Kentucky Coal Company. He went
to Earlington from here, and for the past several years had lived in
Evansville. He was on a trip as representative for Buettner-Shelburne
Machine Company of Terre Haute, Ind., which position he had held for
several years. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Janie Harland, who was
with him when he was stricken; two brothers, Thomas Harland, Detroit,
and Philip G. Harland, Peoria, Ill.; and five sisters, Mrs. William
HARTE and Mrs. Owen RUSSELL, Detroit, Mich., Mrs. C.W. MARTIN,
Evansville, Mrs. R.L. CLAYPOOL, Robinson, Ill., and Mrs. Fred H. FOX,
Madisonville. Funeral services were to be held at 2:30 this afternoon
in Barnett Funeral Home in Madisonville, with the Rev. J. Edward
CAYCE, pastor of the Madisonville First Christian church officiating.
Burial was to be in the Nebo cemetery.

Mrs. Velvee Jones HARMAN, 29, wife of Wallace Harman, Webster county
tax commissioner, died at 12:45 p.m. Saturday in an Evansville
hospital where she had been a patient since Friday. She had been ill
at her home in Dixon for two weeks of influenza followed by
mastoiditis. Her condition was thought to be much improved, but on
Thursday, she became worse suddenly. Mrs. Harman was a devoted member
of the General Baptist church in Dixon, was a member of the Order of
Eastern Star and was past worthy matron of the Dixon chapter, and was
also a member of the White Shrine of Jerusalem at Owensboro. In
addition to the husband, she is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Sam JONES, Dixon. Funeral services were conducted at the Dixon
General Baptist church Monday afternoon at 1 o'clock, with the Rev.
Bayne WILSON of Cisney, Ill., officiating. Pallbearers were Dr. A.B.
COLLEY, Thomas WITHERS, George H. POWELL, J.A. WHEELER, J.T. CROUSE,
and Fred Allen TAPP. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Edward HARMON, 36, of Evansville, formerly of Dixon, died Tuesday at
7:15 a.m. in an Evansville hospital after having been run over by a
train Monday night. He was found on the L&N tracks and taken to the
hospital. Both legs were amputated. Survivors are the wife, Retta, a
son, Edward, and a daughter, Doris Jean, Evansville; parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Joe Harmon, near Slaughters; two brothers, Virgil and James
Harmon of Evansville; and two sisters, Mrs. Henry FUQUAY of
Evansville, and Mrs. George HAYES, Dixon. Funeral services were held
at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Mt. Pleasant church, near Slaughters, with the
Rev. J.E. HARTFORD of Hanson officiating. Burial was in Mt. Pleasant

Mrs. Lucy Ellen HARMON, 79, widow of the late John P. Harmon, died at
9 a.m. Friday in the home of her son, John Harmon, of Indianapolis,
Ind., where she had been for the past several weeks. Mrs. Harmon was
a member of the Nebo Methodist church. Survivors are four sons, John
of Indianapolis, H.H. and A.B. Harmon of Dixon, and Robert Harmon of
Providence; three daughters, Mrs. Frank YARBROUGH of Henderson, Mrs.
Floyd WILSON of Providence, and Mrs. Beatrice MORRISON of St. Louis,
Mo.; twenty-one grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and a
sister, Mrs. Elmer IVY of Corydon. The body was brought here to the
home of Robert M. Harmon, Willow street, and funeral services were
held there at 2 p.m. Sunday, with the Rev. J.E. HARTFORD, pastor of
the Methodist church, officiating. Burial was in Odd Fellows

Robert M. HARMON, 68, of Providence died at 7:30 a.m. Thursday in Cardwell's Clinic where he had been a patient for a few days with a heart ailment. Mr. Harmon, who was born in Webster county, had been in business in Providence for a number of years. He dealt in real estate, operated a restaurant and taxi business. He was a member of the Methodist church. Surviving are the wife, Nettie; a son, Rufus, of Detroit, Mich.; two grandsons; three brothers, Hollie of Grant City, N. Mex., A.B. of Dixon, and John Harmon of Indianapolis, Ind.; three sisters, Mrs. Frank YARBROUGH of Henderson, Mrs. Floyd WILSON of Providence, and Mrs. Beatrice EMPSON of Michigan; several nieces and nephews. A son, Carroll Harmon, died in 1941. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Methodist Church, with the pastor, the Rev. E.L. DIXON, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Benjamin CONNAWAY. Burial was in Lakeview cemetery.

Mrs. Sarah HARMON, 75, who formerly lived near Dixon, died at 8 p.m. Thursday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Flora STUTTER, in Indianapolis, Ind. She was the widow of the late Dave Harmon who died three months ago. Other survivors are a son, Tiney, of Sebree; a brother, Henry HOLMES of Dixon; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The body was returned to Dixon. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Penecostal Mission in Sebree, with the Rev. William COLLINS officiating. Burial was in the Ashby family cemetery.

Funeral services for Cornelius HARRIS, 68, who died last Thursday morning at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Harold DAVIS, in the
Montezuma section, were held Friday afternoon in Lafayette church in Hopkins county. The Rev. WOODALL officiated, and burial
was in the church cemetery. Mr. Harris had been ill for some time with a heart ailment. Survivors besides Mrs. Davis are the wife

Funeral services for Marion Eugene HARRIS, 35, of Providence who was fatally injured Sunday on Highway 41 near Kelly in Christian county, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Melton Funeral Home. The Rev. Oscar DUNCAN officiated and burial was in the cemetery at Lisman. Harris died at 10:30 p.m. Sunday in Jennie Stuart Hospital in Hopkinsville approximately four hours after he was injured. Death was attributed to a fractured skull. State Trooper Thomas SIMPSON said he was run over by two cars, the first one driven by Homer McDONALD of Cornelia, Ga., and towing the second. McDonald, who told the trooper that Harris was lying in the road, was not held. It was not determined whether the fatal injury was caused before or during the accident. Surviving are the wife, Mrs. George HEAD Harris; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marion Harris, Sturgis; three daughters, Mrs. Betty CONRAD, Providence, and Marilyn and Shirley, at home; a son, Gary, at home; a sister, Mrs. Stella ARHELGER, Sturgis; and a brother, Sidney, Sturgis. Mrs. Mary HARRIS, 53, wife of Willie Harris of Providence, died at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday in Hopkins County Hospital in Madisonville. She had been a patient in the hospital since a fall at her home Monday of last week. Surviving besides the husband are three sons, Leroy, stationed with the Air Force at Barksdale, La.; Luthers, with the Air Force in Washington, D.C., and Kenneth, Providence High School freshman; four sisters, Mrs. Bonnie WINEBARGER, and Mrs. Della WADE of Dearborn, Mich., Mrs. Roscoe WINSTEAD of Dixon, and Mrs. Blanche OAKLEY of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and two brothers, Elvie GARDNER of Dearborn, Mich., and Frank Gardner of Clay. The body is at Melton Funeral Home awaiting funeral arrangements.

Last rites were held at Clay Saturday at 2 p.m. for Roy HARRIS, 51,
former Clay resident, who died the previous Tuesday in a St. Louis
Hospital after an illness of a year. His condition had been serious
since August. The body was taken Friday to the Franklin Funeral Home
in Clay, where services were held the next day, with the Rev. Truitt
MILLER officiating. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Martha Ann
Harris, Woodlawn, Ill., and his wife, Mrs. Clara Harris, of St. Louis.
Burial was in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Clay.

Willis REA HARRIS, 43, of Nebo, formerly of Providence, died at 1 p.m. Saturday in Hopkins County Hospital three days after he suffered a heart attack. He lived in Providence as a boy with his parents, the late W.W. Harris and Mrs. Harris, and graduated from Providence High School. He was outside mine foreman for Coiltown Mining Company. Surviving are the wife, Anne; a daughter, Rea Anna; and mother, Mrs. Bonnie Rea Harris, all of Nebo. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Harris Funeral Home in Madisonville. The Rev. Gene MYERS, pastor of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, officiated, assisted by the Rev. Edwin KAGIN, pastor of Madisonville Main Street Presbyterian Church. Burial was in Lakeview cemetery, Providence.

Mrs. Georgena HARRISON, 75, died at 10:45 a.m. Monday at her home on Givens street. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Richard PLEMMONS, Evansville, Mrs. Mason GUESS and Mrs. W.D. THOMASON, Providence; two sons, Eugene, Providence, and Leroy, Springfield, Mo.; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Victory Baptist Church, with the Rev. Albert KEMP of Evansville, former pastor of the church, officiating, assisted by the pastor, the Rev. W.W. JOHNSON. Burial was in the cemetery at St. Charles.

Robert L. HARRISON, 63, of Tiptonville, Tenn., who had been IC depot agent in Clay for some time, died at 11:05 a.m. Monday in the Illinois Central Hospital in Paducah. Mr. Harrison was found unconscious in his room at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joe MITCHELL by Mr. Mitchell at about 7:30 Monday morning. It was thought he had suffered a stroke some time during the night. This was the second time that Mr. Harrison had served as agent in Clay. The first time was before World War II. Surviving him are the wife, Mrs. Gladys Harrison, of Tiptonville; his mother and one sister of Tennessee. Mr. and Mrs. Harrison had an only son who went down on a plane in the Mediterranean sea during World War II. Funeral and burial were at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning in Tiptonville. Mrs. Mattie Elizabeth HARTFORD, 84, of Sebree Route 3, died at 3:45 a.m. Thursday at the home of her daughter, Miss Zora Hartford, in Evansville. Survivors besides the daughter are five sons, M.L. and Oman Hartford of Sebree Route 3; Percy Hartford, of Evansville; Ivan and Delta Clyde Hartford, Boonville IN; 15 grandchildren; and one brother, B.L. CARLISLE, Carbondale IL. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Sassafras Grove Methodist Church with the Rev. J.A. HUMBLE and the Rev. Dudley L. FISH officiating. Elmer HARVEY, 69, retired miner, died at 10:a.m. Sunday at his home on Marlin street in Providence. Surviving are the wife, Nora; a daughter, Mrs. Jim WEIDEMAN, Atlanta, Ga.; two sons, Harold, Providence, and Delmer Harvey, Indianapolis, Ind.; a sister, Mrs. Tom CROWELL, Providence; and three brothers, Jim of Providence, Bob of Mortons Gap, and Journey Harvey of Oregon. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at White Oak Church, with the Rev. C.W. DUFFER officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Mary HARVEY, 77, former Sebree resident, died at 4:25 p.m. Thursday in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Helen FREEMAN, in Princeton, Ind. Surviving besides the daughter is a granddaughter. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Springfield funeral home in Sebree, with burial at Nebo.

William Henry HARVEY, 82, died at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at his home on Providence Route 1, near Diamond. Surviving are the wife, Effie; four sons, Arthur and Realous of Diamond, Strother of Providence, and Cecil of Clay Route 2; 13 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock this afternoon at White Oak Church, with the Rev. E.G. SISK of Dixon officiating, assisted by the Rev. Archie OLIVER of Diamond. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Carl T. HAWKINS, 58, Providence electrician, died shortly before midnight Wednesday in Cardwell's Clinic where he was admitted Tuesday for treatment of a heart condition. He had been living at Morgan Hotel. Surviving are two sons, Billy Jack, St. Louis, Mo., and Jimmy of Clay; his mother, Mrs. Mattie Lee Hawkins, Clay; and one grandchild. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday in Melton Funeral Home, with the Rev. Benjamin CONNAWAY officiating. Burial was in Clay cemetery.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Slaughters Methodist Church, with the Rev. T.H. PICKERILL of Robards officiating, assisted by the pastor, the Rev. A.N. YANCEY. Burial was in New Salem cemetery.

Mrs. Jennie HAWKINS, 87, who formerly lived near Sebree, died at 10:45 a.m. Sunday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Finis LITTLEPAGE, in Henderson. She was the widow of the late Rollie Hawkins. Also surviving are another daughter, Miss Becky Hawkins; four grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; two brothers, Henry DAY of Sebree, and James Day, of Madisonville; and a sister, Mrs. Henry WINSTEAD, Henderson. Funeral services were held at Oakley Home church at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. W.W. OAKLEY officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Joe Lee (Sandy) HAWKINS, 59, died at 1 p.m. Friday at his home in Sebree. He had been quite ill since he suffered a stroke ten weeks ago. Surviving are the wife, Mollie; two sons, William C. and Harvey Lee of Sebree; a sister, Mrs. Jane BROOKS, Slaughters; and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Mrs. Lennie HAWKINS, 75, died Wednesday of last week at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George DeVYLDER, at Slaughters, Surviving besides Mrs. DeVylder are two daughters, Mrs. Roy CRABTREE, Slaughters, and Mrs. Irvin CATES, Hanson; three sons, Reuben and William, of Evansville, and Tommy Hawkins, Slaughters; and three sisters, Mrs. Alice Cates, Mrs. Nora Cates and Mrs. Lillian PRESSLEY, Slaughters. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Brick church near Slaughters and burial was in the church cemetery.

Dixon, Ky. - Mae HAWKINS, 102, died at 2:10 p.m. Thursday at Redbanks Nursing Home in Henderson. She was a life member of Harmony Baptist Church. Surviving are her nephew and caregiver, Charles OVERBY; and other nieces and nephews. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Harmony Church, with burial in Townsend Cemetery. Robert HAWKINS, 79, died Monday in the home of his sister, Mrs. Henry TOOMBS, in Slaughters. Mrs. Toombs is the only
immediate survivor. He has a number of other relatives in Webster and Henderson counties. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m.
Tuesday at the home, with the Rev. J.E. HARTFORD of Providence officiating. Burial was in Slaughters cemetery.

Edward HAYES, 76, died at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Doris D. ALLEN, near Poole. Survivors are the wife, Ollie; the daughter; a son, Cledis, of Poole; five grandchildren; a brother, Haywood Hayes of Henderson; and a sister, Mrs. Stella DOSSETT of Mackey, Ind. Sebree, Ky. - Mittie Lewa HAYES, 88, died at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Colonial Terrace Nursing Home. She was a member of Sebree First Baptist Church. Surviving are nieces and nephews. Her husband, Roy, died in 1986. Arrangements are pending at Tompkins Funeral Homes - Sebree/Poole Chapel.

Mrs. N.B. HAYES of Tampa, Fla., a native of Providence, died Monday in a Tampa hospital where she had been a patient for eight months following a stroke. Mrs. Hayes, the former Miss Rosa MONTGOMERY, who was past 90 years of age, was born and reared in Providence and taught in the Old Home School which was operated by her mother, Mrs. John Montgomery. She was the last surviving member of that family. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. A.H. COX of Tampa, and a son, Hume A. Hayes of Lexington. A funeral service was held Tuesday in Tampa, after which the body was brought to Kerr Funeral Home in Lexington where services will be conducted today. Burial will be in a Lexington cemetery. T.T. MORRIS, a brother-in-law; Mrs. Franklin MARTIN, a niece; James C. Morris, a nephew, and Mrs. Morris went to Lexington Wednesday to attend last rites.

Survivors besides the parents are grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. E.R. Haynes of Clay and D.F. CAPLINGER of Latonia; a half-brother, David Haynes of Henderson; and Mrs. Haynes' brothers, Frank and Hieatt Caplinger, and uncle and aunt, Mrs. and Mrs. Horace HANNA of Louisville. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Franklin and Edwards Funeral Home in Clay, with the Rev. G.R. ABERNATHY officiating. Burial was in I.O.O.F. cemetery, Clay.

Mrs. Lucy Ann HAZEL, 77, for sixty years a resident of Blackford, died at 2 a.m. Sunday in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Gordon SEITZ, in Detroit, Mich. Mrs. Hazel had gone to Detroit last month to spend the winter with her daughter and became ill with influenza which resulted in her death. Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. John PHILLIPS, Colorado Springs, Colo., Mrs. A.H. PICKENS of Providence, and Mrs. Seitz; two sons, J.B. Hazel, Detroit, and Ottis Hazel, Dawson Springs, who was discharged after 23 months in service and reached his mother's bedside three hours before her death; two brothers, J.T. WALLACE, Lisman, and S.R. Wallace, near Clay; a half-brother, James Carter Wallace, Cleveland, Ohio; twelve grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. The body arrived at the home in Blackford Tuesday night. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Baptist church in Blackford, with the Rev. E.G. SISK of Diamond officiating, assisted by the Rev. N.B. SIZEMORE of Sullivan and the Rev. J.R. KING of Blackford. Burial was in Blackford cemetery.
