Eulice C. GARBER, 45, of Nashville, Tenn., whose wife formerly lived in Webster county, died at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday of last week in a Nashville Hospital. Surviving are the wife, Thelma; foster mother, Mrs. Flora JERNIGAN of Nashville; two sisters, Mrs. J.O. LAVENDER and Miss Hessie Garber of Donelson, Tenn.; two brothers, Wiley of Olympia, Wash., and James of St. Louis, Mo.; and a foster brother, Charles Jernigan of Nashville. The body was brought to the home of a sister-in-law, Mrs. Carroll FREDERICK in Providence. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at White Oak church, with the Rev. C.W. DUFFER officiating. Burial was in White Oak cemetery.

John A. GARDNER, 88, died at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in his home in the Liberty section. His wife, Mary, died the previous Sunday and was buried the following day. Mr. Gardner is survived by a son, Leslie, Providence; grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 1 p. m. Monday at Tapp Funeral Home in Dixon, with the Rev. E.G. SISK officiating. Burial was in the McCoy family cemetery.

Funeral services for Miss Kate GARDNER, who died Thursday, Oct. 23, at
her home in Shady Grove, were held Friday afternoon in the Shady Grove
Methodist church. The Rev. R.L. OLIVER of Marion officiated, assisted
by the Rev. James S. CURRY of Providence and the Rev. I Ferd GRAVES,
Louisville. Miss Gardner had been ill three weeks following a stroke
of paralysis. She was born three miles north of Shady Grove. She
lived for fifteen years in Hopkins county, but for the past several
years had made her home in Shady Grove, where she was a member of the
Methodist church, and was noted as being an outstanding Christian
character. Survivors are five sisters, Mrs. C.E. UTLEY, Clay; Mrs.
Jack BOYD, Shady Grove; Mrs. R.C. CRITTENDEN, Mrs. Annie TRAVIS, and
Mrs. Joe RAMSEY, Providence; and a brother, J.L. GARDNER of Eldorado,
Ill. Pallbearers were Willie TUDOR, John MAYES, Leonard CROWELL,
Everett HORNING, Richard McDOWELL, and Bailey UTLEY. Burial was in

Leslie GARDNER, 64, who lived near Providence, was found dead in a field near his home Wednesday afternoon of last week. He had not been seen since the previous Friday, and Coroner J.D. BLACKBURN said he apparently had been dead since that day. He said death was caused by a heart attack. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Onis LOWE of Lincoln Park, Mich., Mrs. Virgil VAUGHN of Providence, and Mrs. Richard SNYDER of Nashville, Ind.; four sons, V.W. of Lincoln Park, Eddie of Evansville, George and Virgil L. Gardner of Detroit, Mich.; 18 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Friday at Tapp Funeral Home in Providence, with the Rev. E.G. SISK of Dixon officiating. Burial was in the Gardner family cemetery.

Mrs. Mary Ellen GARDNER, 82, died at 4:30 a.m. Sunday at her home in the Liberty section following an illness of two years. Surviving are the husband, John A. Gardner; sister, Miss Sarah McCOY, Providence; and step-son, Leslie Gardner, Providence; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday at the home, with the Rev. E.G. SISK officiating. Burial was in the McCoy family cemetery in the Liberty section.

Mrs. Nancy Lee GARDNER, 87, wife of D.T. Gardner, died at 2:45 p.m. Sunday at her home near Providence. She was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church. Surviving are the husband; two daughters, Mrs. Verna ROTH of Providence, and Mrs. Opal HOLLOMAN of Detroit, Mich.; five sons, Hugh of Clay, Hobart, Fred, Ellis, and John Gardner, of Providence; a sister, Mrs. Lottie WATSON of Hopkinsville; a brother, Enoch HERRON, Providence; 21 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great- grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at White Oak Church, with the Rev. Archie OLIVER and the Rev. E.G. SISK officiating. Burial was in White Oak cemetery.

Frank GIANNINI, 60, former Providence resident, died Friday night at his home in Princeton of a heart attack. Surviving are the wife, the former Miss Lillian WILKEY; three sons, Dr. F.P. Giannini, jr., William, and Dr. Jack Giannini, Princeton; a daughter, Mrs. Sue HAAG, Louisville; and seven grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Morgan Funeral Home in Princeton, and burial was in the Princeton cemetery.

Miss Comma GIBSON, 76, died at 6:45 p.m. Sunday at her home near Robards. Survivors are three sisters, Mrs. Bert ROBARDS and Mrs. W.M. KING, of Robards, and Mrs. G.T. CARTER of Sebree; and three brothers, Eli and Bill of Robards, and Barney of Henderson. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Baptist Church in Robards, with the Rev. Mrs. Delmer GIBSON, 68, widow of the late Mack Gibson, died at 3 a.m. Friday at her home in the Tilden section. Surviving are two sons, Omer H. and Curtis R. Gibson, of Dixon; a daughter, Mrs. Gardie TAPP, of Tilden; two brothers, I.W. and Ewing BUMPUS,of Henderson; and five grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Missionary Baptist church in Poole, with the Rev. E.G. SISK, of Diamond, officiating. Burial was in Shady Grove cemetery, Poole.

Mrs. Thice GIBSON, age 79 years, died Sunday morning at 1:30 o'clock following a long illness caused by a fall several months ago when she suffered a broken hip and was never well again. She was a member of Ashland church near Clay. She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Lulu TOWNSEND, with whom she made her home, Mrs. Cordie JONES of near Clay, Mrs. Lydia ROBERTS, Mrs. Liza ALDRIDGE of Evansville, two sons, John Boyd Gibson of Eldorado, and Ode Gibson of near Clay. Funeral services were conducted at the home of Mrs. John Townsend by Rev. Nealey PEARCY Monday with burial in the family graveyard at Tilden. Source of clipping unknown and undated. Compiler's note: Elizabeth Frances HIGGINSON Gibson was born 19 March 1850 and died 21 April 1929. She was the daughter of Washington Higginson and Eliza CREWS and the widow of Mathias Casrul Gibson, who she married 10 November 1866 in Gallatin County IL. Mathias Gibson died 19 August 1913. William Alvie GIBSON, 45, died Sunday at 7:10 p.m. in his home in Clay after an illness of three months. Surviving are the wife, Mary; two daughters, Lou Edna and Wanda; two sons, Oscar and Elbert, all of Clay; his mother, Mrs. Nancy Gibson, near Clay; four brothers, Fred, Carl, Earl, and Elmer Gibson, of Clay; and five sisters, Mrs. Margie SHELTON of Corydon, Mrs. Chester STONE, Dixon, Mrs. Gracie Stone and Miss Thelma Gibson, Clay. Funeral services were held at the Tabernacle in Clay at 2 p.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Charles H. RUTHERFORD officiating. Burial was in I.O.O.F. cemetery, Clay.

Gilbert C. GILCHRIST, who formerly made his home here with his brother, Dr. J.R. Gilchrist, died Sunday in University Hospital in Ann Arbor, Mich. Survivors besides Dr. Gilchrist are a son, Jimmie, Sturgis; brothers, Arch D. and Enloe, of Sullivan, and S.B. Gilchrist, Avanal, Calif.; and two sisters, Mrs. Fannie WASKOM, Evansville, and Mrs. Henrietta BIERS, Chicago. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Cumberland Presbyterian church in Sullivan and burial was in Pythian Ridge cemetery in Sturgis.

William Thomas GILL, 73, died at 6 a.m. Monday at his home on St. Bernard street. Survivors are the wife, Emma; four daughters, Mrs. Rufus THOMAS, of Evansville, Mrs. J.W. FRAELICH, of Providence, Mrs. Everett BRANTLEY, of Denver, Colo., and Mrs. Ernest HAZEL, of Madisonville; three sons, Herbert, Floyd and Oather Gill of Evansville; two sisters, Mrs. Tom LONG and Mrs. Mary BROWN, of Madisonville; two brothers, Charlie, of Earlington, and Ed Gill, of Seattle, Wash.; 25 grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Second Baptist church, with the Rev. Porter COLE officiating. Burial was in Rose Creek cemetery. Mrs. Sarah Headley GIST, 82, widow of the late James G. Gist,
prominent tobacco dealer, died at 8:30 Thursday night in her home on
South Broadway, following a few days' illness. She had suffered a
severe heart attack on the Tuesday night preceding her death and had
been in a critical condition since that time. Mrs. Gist, daughter of
pioneer residents, James D. and Mary E. HEADLEY, was born here on
Nov. 5, 1859, and had spent her entire life in this community. She
was married on May 1, 1889 to James G. Gist, whose death occurred on
Nov. 30 of last year. Mrs. Gist has been a member of the First
Baptist church for over sixty years, and was a consecrated Christian
woman. By her kindness and gentleness she had endeared herself to a
wide circle of friends, who were grieved at her passing. She was
devoted to her family and always considerate of her associates.
Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. John Weir SUGG, with whom she lived; a
sister, Mrs. Mary RUDY, of Evansville, Ind.; and a brother, James D.
Headley, Nevada, Mo. Funeral services were held at the home at 10
o'clock Saturday morning with the Rev. Benjamin CONNAWAY, officiating.
Pallbearers were J.C. Sugg, W.B. SNOW, M.C. PALMER, T.M. HILL, Harold
WYNN, and Lucien RUBY. Burial was in Lakeview cemetery.

Mrs. Ada PAYNE GIVENS, 92, formerly of Providence and member of a family prominent in the early history of the section, died at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday of last week at the home of a niece, Mrs. Pearl WILLIAMS, in Shelbyville. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James M. Payne and widow of the late J.E. Givens. She was a member of the First Baptist church in Providence. Survivors are a brother, W.M. Payne, Sturgis, and two grandchildren. The body was brought Thursday to Melton Funeral Home and funeral services were held there at 3 p.m. Friday. The Rev. Benjamin CONNAWAY officiated. Burial was in Big Hill cemetery.

Ernest B. GIVENS, 48, of South Bend, Ind., formerly of Providence, died at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, of a heart attack at the Studebaker plant where he was employed. Mr. Givens went to South Bend from Providence 27 years ago and had worked for Studebaker since that time. He was a son of the late James L. and Fannie W. Givens and was born in Caldwell county, March 6, 1901. Survivors are the wife, the former Miss Florence HASS, to who he was married May 6, 1926; a daughter, Jacqueline, a student at Purdue University, Lafayette, Ind.; and a brother, David Givens, Clarksville, Tenn. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Welsheimer Funeral home in South Bend, with the Rev. Walter D. OBERHOLTZER , pastor of Holy Trinity Lutheran church, officiating. Burial was in Highland cemetery, South Bend.

John E. GIVENS, 85, retired farmer, died at 9:45 p.m. Monday at his home in Nebo of a heart ailment. Mr. Givens, who a number of years ago was a resident of Providence, was born April 15, 1865 in the Johnson Island section. He was married on Sept. 24, 1890 to Miss Willie Mae EADES. He was converted at an early age at Rose Creek church and while living in Bowling Green united with the Baptist church there, later moving his membership to the Nebo Baptist church. He was a deacon in the Nebo church. Survivors are the wife; three daughters, Mrs. Oscar M. CORBIN, sr., Providence, Mrs. J.B. WOOTON, of Nebo, and Mrs. William ABERNATHY, of Aurora; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. A son, Earl Givens, died twelve years ago. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Nebo Baptist church with the pastor, the Rev. Frank MITCHELL, officiating, assisted by the Rev. CARNES of Louisville. Pallbearers were grandsons, Oscar Corbin, Jr., John and Bill Corbin, Scottie, George, and Don Wooton. Deacons of the church were honorary pallbearers. Burial was in I.O.O.F. cemetery, Madisonville.

John L. GIVENS, 53, of San Antonio, Tex., was instantly killed in an automobile accident near there last week. He lived in Providence when a small boy with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. T.N. Givens. Surviving are the wife, Mrs. Grace COLEMAN Givens; a son, John, both of San Antonio; two brothers, W.P. Givens of Corpus Christi, Tex., and T.K. Givens of Louisville; and a sister, Miss Judith Givens, San Antonio. Funeral and burial were in San Antonio.

Mrs. Lillian Frances GIVENS, 72, former Providence resident, died at 5 p.m. Saturday in Owensboro following a long illness. She was the widow of the late James B. Givens, who died in 1937. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. S.C. PERKINS, of Owensboro, and Mrs. H.E. CATES, of Nebo; a son, James C. Givens, Bowling Green; a half-sister, Mrs. J.D. SMITH, Sturgis; half-brother Archie TAPP, Phoenix, Ariz.; eighteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A son, Capt. John M. Givens, was killed in action in World War II. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Tapp Funeral Home in Providence, with the Rev. L.M. WINSTEAD, of Owensboro, officiating. Pallbearers were Arch BAMBERGER, Ed ACKERS, J.D. TYNON, and Charles PERKINS, of Owensboro, Oscar CORBIN, jr., and John Corbin, Providence. Burial was in Lakeview cemetery.

Ross GIVENS, 87, first mayor of Providence and prominent in the city's development, died Tuesday at his home in San Antonio, Tex., where he had lived for several years. A son of the late J.W. and Margaret ROSS Givens, prominent pioneer family of Providence, he was born February 2, 1867 in the family home, the large brick house which recently was razed by Roy ALLEN, who is building a new home on the site. The home was the center of social life and was a show place of that day. Mr. Givens was married in 1903 to Miss Lenore Givens, daughter of the late Henry Givens. He was very active in the civic growth of the community, being the first mayor of Providence. Among his business interests, he at one time was president and cashier of the old Providence Bank, and was associated with his father in the J.W. Givens Dry Goods Company and in the tobacco company. He was also active in mining and farming, having owned considerable land in this area. Mr. Givens left Providence in 1913 for west Texas where he was associated with his brothers, the late James and Stuart Givens, in the oil business. He was a Mason and a member of the Missionary Baptist Church. Among his many relatives here are nephews, J.C. SUGG and J.W. Sugg. Mrs. Hugh L. WHITE, wife of Governor White of Mississippi is a niece. Mrs. Ruth G. BAKER is a sister-in-law. Surviving are the wife, Lenore; daughters, Margaret and Judith; son, Jimmie; and two grandchildren, all of San Antonio. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Wednesday in San Antonio, with burial there.

Thomas K. GIVENS, 62, formerly of Providence, died at 2 a.m. Tuesday at his home in Louisville. He was the son of the late T.N. Givens, of Providence, and was manager of the insurance department of Lincoln Bank and Trust Company. Survivors are the wife, Mrs. Keith Sperry Givens; a daughter, Mrs. William G. NELSON, Northfield, Minn.; a brother, Pierson Givens, Corpus Christi, Tex.; and a sister, Miss Judith Givens, San Antonio, Tex. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Cralle Funeral Home in Louisville, with burial in Cave Hill cemetery there.
