Charlie CAIN, 76, died at 4 p.m. Friday at his home near Dixon. He was a member of the Methodist Church in Providence. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Albert SMITH, Louisville; five sons, Thomas, Robert, L.D., and James Cain of Louisville, and Claud Cain of Uniontown; several grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. G. O. HART of Nebo and Mrs. Robert VANDIVER of Providence. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Melton Funeral Home with the Rev. Carl HARKINS officiating. Robert Morris CAIN, 61, of Morganfield, formerly of Providence, died at 8:15 p.m. Saturday at Welborn Baptist Hospital in Evansville.
He was pharmacist for Baynham's Drug Store in Providence a number of years ago and was operating a drug store in Morganfield.
Surviving are the wife, Mary A.; two daughters, Mrs. Noel WISE of Dawson Springs, and Mrs. Keith M. HINTON of Evansville; a
brother, William C. of Wellington, Ohio; and a sister, Mrs. Leslie D. JONES, Louisville. Funeral services were held at 9:30 a.m.
Tuesday at Morganfield Methodist Church with the Rev. George MILBURN officiating. Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Irvington.

Ronnie Dale CAIN, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Claud Cain, died at 9:45 a.m. Monday in Cardwell's Clinic, 19 hours after birth. Besides the parents, surviving are four sisters and brothers, Claudia Fay, Larry Wayne, Billie Darrell, and Donna Gale. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Melton Funeral Home, with the Rev. Albert KEMP officiating. Burial was in Lakeview cemetery. Providence Journal-Enterprise, Thursday, August 25, 1949.
John Maxwell CALLAWAY, 74, was found dead Sunday night at his home on Green street. Death, attributed to a heart attack, is thought to have occurred a short time earlier. Mr. Callaway operated a repair shop and formerly was in the automobile business. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Francis STEWART, Chelsea, Mich., four sons, Maxwell of Milan, Mich., William M. and Harold W., of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Edward L. Callaway, Evansville; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and four sisters, Mrs. Addie DONAN of Greenville, Mrs. Nellie NEWMAN of Owensboro, Mrs. Mary TOWERY of Morganfield, and Mrs. Ariana O'NAN of Louisville. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Melton Funeral Home, with the Rev. R.T. MITCHELL officiating. Burial was in Pythian Ridge cemetery, Sturgis.

Judith Fay CALLAWAY, 5, died at 3 a.m. Wednesday in a hospital in Ann
Arbor, Mich., following an illness of pneumonia. She was the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. William Callaway, who formerly lived here. Survivors
in addition to the parents are grandparents Mr. and Mrs. T.H. HALL,
and J.M. Callaway, of Providence. Funeral services and burial are to

Funeral services for Mrs. Vaneta CALLIS of Hanson, who died at Hopkins County Hospital in Madisonville Saturday night, were held at 4 p.m. Monday at Harris Funeral Home in Madisonville. The Rev. A.L. FRASER of Livermore, former pastor of Hanson Methodist church, officiated and burial was in West Lawn cemetery near Hanson. Surviving are the husband, Henry; one son, Jimmy of Bowling Green; one daughter, Betty, of Hanson; her parents, Dr. and Mrs. J.D. TIMMONS, Hanson; and a sister, Mrs. Emerson REYNOLDS, Slaughters.

Albert C. CAMPBELL, 77, died at 11 p.m. Monday at his home in Blackford. Campbell of Los Angeles, Calif. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Franklin and Edwards Funeral Home in Clay, with the Rev. Claud THRELKELD of the White Oak section officiating. Burial was in Sugar Grove cemetery in Crittenden county.

Mrs. Alma CAMPBELL, widow of the late G.L. Campbell, died suddenly Wednesday morning following a heart attack at the home of her son, Oma Campbell, near Poole. Survivors besides the son are a daughter, Mrs. Luke ORSBURN, near Poole; three grandchildren, Lukie and Sue Orsburn, and G.L. Campbell; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Oma THORNSBERRY, of Chicago, Ill., and Mrs. Bessie BERRY, of California; and a brother, Morris ALLEN, of Alabama. The body is at the son's home. Dr. Clem CAMPBELL, 60, native of Webster county, and son of the late
Sam Campbell, died at 2 a.m. Wednesday in a hospital in South Bend,
Indiana, in which city he practiced medicine. Survivors are his wife,
who was Miss Nancy BROWN, a native of Sebree; two sons, George of
South Bend, and William of Seattle, Wash.; his mother, Mrs. Pina
Campbell, Dixon; two sisters, Mrs. Ruby MOORMAN, Dixon, and Mrs. C.E.
HEARIN, Clay; and a brother, Dr. George Campbell, Flora, Ill. Funeral
and burial will be in South Bend at 10:30 Friday morning.

Mrs. Sam CAMPBELL, 92, died at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Claud MOORMAN, in Dixon. Surviving besides Mrs. Moorman are another daughter, Mrs. C.E. HEARIN, Clay; a son, Dr. George CAMPBELL, Flora, Ill.; a niece, Mrs. C.A. WHITTAKER, Princeton, who was reared by Mrs. Campbell; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the home at 2 p.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. S.R. GILLIAM of Providence officiating. Pallbearers were E.S. LOVE, Mark PARISH, S.C. GENTRY, J.C. THOMASSON, W.O. CROWE, and J. T. BRADEN. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery, Dixon.

Mrs. Laura CANADA, 58, died early Tuesday morning at her home in
Blackford after a lingering illness. Surviving are the husband, John
Canada; a son, William of Henderson; two daughters, Mrs. Highland
BOUCHER of Henderson, and Mrs. Ishmel CRUISE of Sturgis; four
grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Lucy PULLAM of Haiti, Mo., and
Mrs. Betty WALKER of Salem. Funeral services were conducted at 2
o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the Blackford Baptist church, with the
Rev. J.R. KING in charge. Burial was in Blackford cemetery.

William McClean CANADA, 29, of Henderson died at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in
the Henderson hospital of a heart ailment. The body was removed
Sunday night to the home of his father, J.W. Canada, in Blackford.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Grace Canada and five-months-old son,
Johnny, of Henderson; his father, J.W. Canada, Blackford; and two
sisters, Mrs. Highland BOUCHER, Henderson, and Mrs. Ishmel CRUISE,
Sturgis. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the
Blackford Baptist church, with the Rev. J.R. KING officiating. Burial

James Cleve CANNADAY, 74, Providence attorney for fifty-one years, died at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at his home on East Main,
approximately an hour and a half after he suffered a cerebral hemorrhage. Although he had been in ill health, he was still able to go to
his office and maintain his law practice. Mr. Cannaday was born near Providence, son of the late Joseph and Celia Cannaday, and
had spent his entire life in this community. He taught school before he became an attorney and had served as Providence city
attorney. He was a member of the Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge, and was a charter member of the Providence Kiwanis Club,
later serving as president of that organization. Mr. Cannaday was for many years in great demand as a speaker at political,
civic, and patriotic meetings and other occasions. In addition to his reputation as a speaker, he also was considered a gifted writer,
and made a hobby of poetry-writing. His wife, the former Miss Ora JAMES, died September 13, 1955. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs.
Grace SANDEFUR, who with her husband Joseph Sandefur, has been living in the family home with Mr. Cannaday for several
months; a grandson, James Sandefur; and two sisters, Mrs. C.L. WILLIAMS of Athens TN and Mrs. Lula CULLEN, Providence.
The body was taken at noon Monday from Melton Funeral Home to the family residence where funeral services were held at 2 p.m.
with the Rev. John C. BASSETT, pastor of the Methodist Church, officiating. Burial was in Big Hill Cemetery with Masonic rites.

Mrs. Ora CANNADAY, 67, wife of J. Cleve Cannaday, died at 11:10 p.m. Tuesday at her home on East Main after an illness of several months. Mrs. Cannaday was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. B.C. JAMES, prominent residents of the county. She was married to Mr. Cannaday on February 25, 1912 in Slaughters. She was a member of Providence Methodist Church, the Book Club and the Garden Club. She was particularly talented in growing and arranging flowers, and was well known for this as well as being a gracious hostess in her attractive home. Surviving are the husband; a daughter, Mrs. Grace SANDEFUR, Evansville; one brother, Elliott James, Bowling Green; and a grandson, James Mitchell Sandefur, Evansville. The body is at the home where funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock this afternoon, with the Rev. Leslie CHAPMAN officiating. Burial will be in Big Hill cemetery.

Funeral services for Pfc. Eugene Q. CAPPS, who was killed in action in France on Nov. 18, 1944, were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Baptist church in Sullivan. The Rev. Bob WALLACE of Wheatcroft, and the Rev. E.G. SISK, of Diamond, officiated. The body arrived Saturday morning in Morganfield and was taken to the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. F.E. Capps, near Sullivan, where it remained until time for the funeral. Sgt. Byron HEALY accompanied the body to the home. Full military rites were conducted by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Posts of Providence. Burial was in Pythian Ridge cemetery, Sturgis.

Pvt. Roy Hammack CAPSHAW, 19, son of the Rev. Herman Capshaw, Providence, died Nov. 13 in a hospital on Luzon Island in the Philippines, his father was informed in a telegram Tuesday from the War Department. His father had received word earlier that the youth was ill with meningitis. He was admitted to the hospital Oct. 20 and his condition became serious on Oct. 22. Pvt. Capshaw had been in the army since April 1. He landed in Manila on Sept. 18. Survivors are the father and stepmother; a brother, Joseph Herman Capshaw and a sister, Amanda Lynn Capshaw, of the Beulah section; two half-brothers, George and Larry Braden Capshaw; two half-sisters, Carolyn Sue and Wanda Jean; and a step-sister, Naomi Ruth BRADEN, all at home. James Edwin CARAWAY, 27, of Providence, died at 4:30 a.m. Saturday at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ethan Caraway in Crittenden county. Survivors besides the parents are the wife, Amonel; a three-year-old daughter by a former marriage, of Beulah; four sisters, Mrs. Evelyn CANNADAY, of Fredonia, Mrs. Zola CANNADAY, of Princeton, Mrs. Willie May LUCANCICI, of Chicago, Ill., and Mrs. Louise BURNS, Providence; and four brothers, Llewellyn and Kenneth, of Providence, Viechel, of Chicago, and Wesley, at home. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Christ Temple with the Rev. Rupert UTLEY, of Madisonville, officiating. Burial was in Sigler and Kennedy cemetery in Caldwell county.

Mrs. Thannie CARDWELL, 88, formerly of Providence and widow of J.M. Cardwell, died at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at her home in Long Beach, Calif. Mrs. Cardwell and family moved from Providence to California in 1912 and have lived there since that time. Surviving are four children, Raymond, Nannie, Carl, and Maudy; two brothers, S.C. HUMPHREY and J.M. Humphrey of Evansville; and two sisters, Mrs. J.D. LANGLEY of Fresno, Calif., and Mrs. E.B. BARNHILL of Madisonville. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Cpl. E.G. Carnahan, England; Lt. J.R. Carnahan, Italy; and Pvt, Edward Carnahan, North Carolina, sons of Mr. and Mrs.
Vernon Carnahan; and Cpl. Glen David Wilson, Camp Haan, Calif., son of Mrs. Lilly Wilson. Mrs. Carnahan was a member of
the Hopewell Baptist church. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Oak Grove church by the Rev. E.G. SISK
of Little Zion, assisted by the Rev. J.R. KING of Blackford. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery.

George Wickliffe CARNAHAN, 70, of the Hopewell section, died at 6:40 a.m. Tuesday from a self-inflicted razor wound in his throat at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Gordon HATLEY, near Lisman. He had been in ill health for some time. Survivors besides Mrs. Hatley are three other daughters, Mrs. Lillie WILSON, Universal, Ind., Mrs. Lola COVERT, Lansing, Mich., and Mrs. Ruby JOHNSON, Pontiac, Mich.; two sons, Vernon Carnahan, Gary, Ind., and Wilbur Carnahan, Hopewell section; two brothers, Sam Carnahan, Marion, and Alva Carnahan, Mt. Vernon, Ill.; one sister, Mrs. Kate McCLURE, Evansville; eighteen grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Carnahan was a member of Hopewell Baptist church. The body is at the home of Wilbur Carnahan in the Hopewell section. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock this afternoon, Thursday, in Oak Grove church with the Rev. E.G. SISK of Diamond officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery.

Mrs. Minnie CARNAL, 82, of Poole, died at 1:20 a.m. Sunday in Methodist Hospital in Henderson, following a short illness. surviving are a brother, T.J. STINNETT of Poole, and nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the General Baptist church in Poole, with the Rev. E.Y. LASLIE officiating. Burial was in Shady Grove cemetery, Poole.

Benjamin Harrison CARNEY, 65, formerly of the Cresswell section in Caldwell county, died Wednesday of last week at his
home in Tallatassa, Mo. He had been ill for a year of a heart condition. He was a member of the Assembly of God.
Surviving are the wife, Annie Taylor Carney; two sisters, Mrs. Clarence BURTON of Providence and Mrs. Vernie KOLWYCK of
Charleston, S.C.; two brothers, Charlie of Memphis, Tenn., and Ewing Carney of Miami, Fla. Funeral services were held at
2 p.m. Saturday at Melton Funeral Home in Providence, with the Rev. Carl HARKINS officiating, assisted by the Rev. R.T. MITCHELL.

Mrs. Matilda BUCKNER CARPENTER, 97, of Sebree, died at 7:30 p.m. Friday in a Frankfort hospital where she had been a patient for ten days. Surviving are a brother, Marvin Buckner of Frankfort; and two nieces, Mrs. Ambrose DUDLEY, Frankfort, and Mrs. Blanche TANDY of Florida. The body was brought to Springfield Funeral Home in Sebree, and funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Sebree Methodist Church. The Rev. Fred GLOVER officiated. Burial was in the Masonic cemetery at Morganfield. Pallbearers were Berry F. MAJORS, Paul WELDON, Albert BROOKS, Edna CRITSER, Jewel EDWARDS, and Pete LIGGETT.

Surviving are the husband, William Carter; four sons, Lawrence A., of Detroit, Mich., Alpha E., of Lakeland, Fla., Henry B., of Evansville, and John Carter, of Dayton, Ohio; and a daughter, Miss Lee Carter, at home. Richard Samuel CARY, 82, died at 10:45 a.m. Sunday at his home in Sebree. Surviving are the wife, Clara; a daughter, Mrs. B.L. Mrs. Loudona CASNER, 74, wife of Fred A. Casner, died at 2:30 p.m. Monday at her home on Locust street following a long illness. Mrs. Casner, the former Loudona ASHER, was born in Crittenden county and she and Mr. Casner were married February 3, 1898. She had been a church member for more than sixty years, her memberhsip having been for many years in Providence First Baptist Church. She was a charter member of Providence Eastern Star chapter and had held a state office in the lodge. Surviving besides the husband are three sons, John and Lawrence of Madisonville, and James P. Casner of Chicago; a daughter, Mrs. V.C. ASHBY of Hopkinsville; two sisters, Mrs. Alma CANNON and Mrs. Iva LEWIS of Atlanta, Ga.; a brother, S.L. Asher of Atlanta; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the home, with the Rev. Benjamin CONNAWAY officiating. Burial was in Lakeview cemetery.

Mrs. Annah CATES, 71, died at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at her home near Tilden as the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the heart. Coroner J. Murray BLUE returned a verdict of suicide. Mrs. Cates had been in ill health for several years. Surviviors are the husband, Guy Cates; a sister, Mrs. J.M. OVERFIELD, of Corydon; and a brother, Jonah TAPP, Corydon. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock this afternoon in Tapp Funeral Home in Dixon, with the Rev. W.W. OAKLEY officiating. Burial will be in the Tapp family cemetery.

Bob CATES, 78, died Tuesday morning in the home of a brother, Babe Cates, Slaughters Route 1, following an illness of several months of a heart condition. Surviving besides the brother is a sister, Mrs. Liza MOORE, Slaughters. The body is at the brother's home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Mt. Gilead Church, and burial will be in the church cemetery.

Miss Emma CATES, 27, died last Thursday afternoon in an Amarillo,
Texas, hospital, in which she had been a patient for thirteen months.
A daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Cates, she was born and
reared in Providence, and lived here until three years ago when she
went to Amarillo because of ill health to make her home with her
brother, George Cates. She had united with the First Christian church
in Amarillo. Survivors are the stepmother Mrs. Cynthia Cates,
Providence; a sister, Mrs. Burley FUGATE of Dawson Springs; and seven
brothers, Carney, Clarence, and Erastus Cates of Providence; Luther
Cates of Wichita Falls, Tex., George Cates, Amarillo, Texas, Chris
Cates, Pontiac, Mich., and Pvt. Alfred Cates, Fort Sill, Okla.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon in Boxwell Brothers
funeral home in Amarillo, with Dr. R.C. SNODGRASS, pastor of the
church of which she was a member, officiating. The body arrived here
Sunday night and was taken to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Erastus Cates
until time for services, which were held Monday at 2:30 p.m. in the
General Baptist church. The Rev. W.T. WINSTEAD officiated, assisted
by the Rev. C.W. DUFFER. Pallbearers were John B. Fugate, Robert
Fugate, Douglas Cates, Willis Cates, Billy WINEBARGER, and Lexie
Winebarger. Burial was in Big Hill cemetery.

Frank CATES, 79, retired farmer, died at 2:30 a.m. Saturday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Frank TUCKER, near Clay. Surviving besides Mrs. Tucker are two brothers, Tom of Evansville, and Jim Cates of Los Angeles, Calif.; a grandson, Jimmie CONRAD of Evansville; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday at Tapp Funeral Home in Dixon, with the Rev. Nealey PEARCY officiating. Burial was in Nebo cemetery.

Guy CATES, 70, died at 10:20 a.m. Saturday, July 3, at the home of a sister, Mrs. Viola DUNCAN in Tilden. Surviving besides Mrs. Duncan are two other sisters, Mrs. Florence MOREHEAD of Dixon and Mrs. Emma RUSSELL of Indianapolis, Ind.; and two brothers, David of Anthoston and Joe Cates of Dixon. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 5, at Tapp Funeral Home in Dixon, with the Rev. Nealey PEARCY officiating. Burial was in the Tapp family cemetery.

John H. CATES, 66, died at 3 p.m. Monday in his home near Dixon following a heart attack. Surviving are the wife, Mrs. Beulah Cates; a daughter, Mrs. Crystal MELTON; three grandchildren; two brothers, Will Cates and Kit Cates of Manitou; and a half-brother, Tom GIPSON, Manitou. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Vandersburg Baptist Church, with the Rev. E.G. SISK of Dixon officiating. Burial was in Slaughters cemetery.

Miss Rosalie CATES, 56, died at 7 p.m. Friday at her home on Cemetery street in Providence. She was the daughter of the late Dr. O.C. Cates and formerly was employed in stores here. Survivors are the mother, Mrs. Orr Belle Cates, Providence; and two sisters, Mrs. William LIGON, of Evansville, and Mrs. Harley DEATON, Toldeo, Ohio. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the First Baptist church, with the Rev. Benjamin CONNAWAY officiating. Burial was in Springdale cemetery, Sebree.

S-Sgt. Willis Ray CATES, 22, was reported killed in action in Germany on May 3, in a message received last Thursday by his
father, Luther O. Cates of Wichita Falls, Tex., formerly of Providence. He had previously been reported missing since April 30.
Sgt. Cates was born in Providence but moved to Texas with his parents at an early age. He had spent considerable time here
with relatives. His mother was the former Revabel LEMON who died in 1931. He had been in service since January 1943, and
was sent overseas in February this year. He had taken part in the battles of the Ruhr Pocket and Cologne before moving to the
area in which his death occurred. Survivors are the father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. L.O. Cates, Wichita Falls, Tex.; the
wife, the former Naoma HEILMANN, Iowa Park, Tex.; and brother, Cpl. Luther O. Cates, jr., who is now in Germany.

George Washington CAVANAH, 81, Sebree city clerk, died at 2:15 p.m. Monday at Methodist Hospital in Henderson. Surviving are the wife, Katherine BAILEY Cavanah; two sons, Harold D. of Hollywood, Calif., and George B. of Altadena, Calif.; and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Christian Church in Sebree, with the Rev. B.L. SALE officiating. Burial was in Petersburg cemetery, near Sebree. Active pallbearers were Murphy MELTON, Leamon CHAMBERLAIN, T.B. SIZEMORE, Henry Chamberlain, Lloyd THOMASSON, and Allen MITCHELL.
