Jonathan Abbott (Also spelled Abbitt, Abbot and Abbet). - Jonathan was born on 8 Jan 1788 in Burke County, North Carolina but moved to Wayne County in the 1820s. I have him listed from the 1830 to the 1880 census for Wayne County. What I really need is the name of his wife. She was called Ocella Unknown, she died before 1850 as she is not shown on the 1850 Census. Jonathan re-married to the widow Elizabeth Kidd in 1858. If anybody has anything on Ocella, a record, proper name or even a picture of a gravestone I would be grateful for any help. Terry Abbott

Thomas was born about 1828 in Kentucky, and is listed in the 1860, 1870, 1880 Census for Whitley Co. KY. Thomas's daughters marriage certificate states that he was born in Wayne County KY. Thomas married MARY POLLY CAUDELL-or-CAMPBELL abt 1850, and is listed in the Scott County TN 1891 Voters registeration list. I have found no trace of Thomas before 1860. Any help on finding any of Thomas's parents siblings etc. would be greatly appreciated.

ASBERRY, JOHNNY - Looking for information on the name Asberry. I believe this is the exact spelling as it came from the granddaughter (my grandmother-in-law, now deceased). I am looking for information / confirmation of a Johnny Asberry ("They called him Johnny, but I don't know if that's his real name") married to Nadine "People called her JANE". They had a daughter named Gloma (sp?) who married a Ernest Millard Pryor in Tennessee. I know Johnny and Jane lived in TN for some period of time, but were known to move back and forth several times according to family stories. I found a Jane Asberry living alone in Wayne, Co (district 3) in 1930. She was 59 years old in 1930 which would be about right. I'll be grateful for any information or suggestions for directions. CHRISTIAN, JAMES - Looking for any information on the James Christian family that moved to Wayne County from Tennessee about 1875. Need a marriage record for one Salina C (possibly Carrie) Christian and an unknown BELL. Possibly Joseph Bell. Carrie was born 1872 in Tennessee. She ultimately moved to Reynolds County, Missouri in the early 1900's with her four children: William Bell, Wesley Bell, Riley Bell, and possibly another child. [email protected]

CHRISTIAN, SALENA CAROLINE - who married a Bell before 1890, most likely in Wayne County. She was born 1872 to James and ELizabeth Christian in Fentress County, Tennessee. The family moved to Wayne County prior to the 1880 census. I am assuming that she married in Wayne County prior to the family's moving to Reynolds County, Missour by the 1900 census. The only members of her family that I am missing are Carrie, above, and her older sister, Elvira. The rest of her siblings married in Reynolds County, starting in 1893, and are found in the census there in 1900. Carrie's first son William was born 1893, in Kentucky. She had two more sons, Wesley and Riley, by 1900. She appears in Carter County, Missouri archives in 1905, applying for a marriage license to George Voyles, and all of her Bell children are listed as Voyles in the 1910 census in Reynolds County, Missouri. I would love to have a marriage record for this woman. I have a possible name of Joseph Bell. Wendy Krzyzanowski

DABNEY, CHARLES - I am looking for the parents of Charles Dabney born 1797 in Kentucky who spent to my knowledge most of his life in Wayne county, KY. He was married twice; first to Jennie Man and then to Edith Chance Scott. He is a decorated solder buried at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Could his parents have been the Nathan Dabney Family 1810 Census or the John DAbney Family 1820 Census? Charles age fits into each of these families.

DABNEY, ROBERT A. - Have you found any records (especially, cemetery records) for Robert A. Dabney? He was the son of Rev. War pensioner, George Dabney (b. 1760 in Hanover Co., VA.), who applied for his pension in Wayne Co., KY. in 1833. George Dabney died in 1843 in Clinton County,KY., but I have found no record of the death of Robert A. Dabney, b. abt. 1795 to 1804, in VA. He lived in Wayne County for some time.
Also, I have not been able to find a Bible record or listing of George Dabney and Elizabeth "Betsy" (Echols) Dabney's children. I know who several of them were, but I need proof for his daughter, Rhoda Dabney, who married William Russell In Adair County, KY., in 1728. The short marriage record there in Adair Co., does not give her father's name or any other family members.. She appears on the Clinton County 1840 Census Records ( with two children) as the "Head of Household". Her brother, William J. Dabney (Lawyer) is also living with her. I have not been able to trace her husband. Her last child, Andrew, was born in 1831. Rhoda (Dabney) Russell and her daughter, Elizabeth A. (Russell) Gray, who married Charles Porter Gray, are buried in the Albany, Ky., City Cemetery. Her son, William Andrew Russell is buried in the Russell Family Cemetery in Clinton County near the TN/Ky state line near Chanute, TN., in Pickett County,TN.
Sue Rogers was very helpful with research on this family some time ago, but we still have not found a listing of George's children. Because there were so many related Dabneys who came from VA., it is difficult to prove which children are whose. There would have been a will for George, but the courthouse in Clinton County, was burned twice, and it must have been destroyed. Any Information would be appreciated. Georgia Moore

I was also wondering if anyone knows if Robert was the son of John or George Dabney, also of Wayne Co., KY.

GIBSON, JAMES - My father and his brothers and sister grew up knowing only that their real mother, Emma Mae Gibson, was the daughter of James Gibson and Caroline Williams, and that she was half-Indian (Blackfoot?), most likely on her father's side. We have tracked down and traced Caroline Williams' side, but have hit the proverbial brick wall with her father, James Gibson.
Here is what little I know:
James Gibson m. Caroline Williams in Pulaski, KY, around 1894.
Their children were (all born in either TN or KY):
Ben Gibson (b. 1894, d. 1984 - 1986 in Texas)
Emma Mae Gibson (b. 1895, d. 1933 in Illinois)
Charles (or Charlie) Gibson (b. 1899, d. in Illinois)
Clara Marie Gibson (b. 1902, d. 1939 - 1944 in Illinois)
Roy Gibson (b. 1905, d. in Illinois)
We've found information that leads us to believe James Gibson was born in Monticello, KY, about 1869 (or 1878? some conflicting info), and died in Frazer, KY, about 1912. We desperately want to know more about James Gibson...
As to Emma Mae: Said to have married a 'Quintin Steele' at an early age; they bore 1 son, Charles or "Charlie" Steele (who later died in Illinois, sometime between 1980 and 1997), before divorcing (?). Emma Mae (Steele? or as Gibson?) remarried, to Joseph Henry Franklin, in Illinois, sometime between 1915 and 1919. After having six children, she and Joseph Henry divorced (?) between 1930-33. Emma Mae (Gibson, or Steele, later Franklin) died on July 31, 1933, in Bloomington, IL.
Any information would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks, Shea Ryan (great grand-daughter of a James Gibson, of Kentucky)

The marriage license has a blank line where the name should be. Rumor says she was Sarah Bell, but I've found no documentation. Josiah moved to Ozark Co., Missouri with his wife and children and another woman, Jane Bell, and her children. Josiah was father to all the children. Jane Bell is known as his concubine and rumor says she was the half sister of Josiah's wife. Does anyone know for sure who his wife was?
Thanks,
Peggy Owen Gibbons

RUSSELL, JAMES -
Wayne County Court Order Book A 1801- Page 14
July Court 1801, 1st Day
(This is a list of individuals who claimed property in the newly formed county of Wayne.)
#207 - Thomas Russell 150 acres established
#208 - James Russell 100 acres established

Wayne County Court Order Book A 1801- Page 103
June Court 1806
James Russell exempted from the payment of County levies on account of age. (He is believed to be the father or brother of Thomas Russell who came to Wayne County KY together as indicated by consecutive listing of establishing their land.)

1810 Census has James Russell:
2 males 10 & under
1 male 45+
2 females 10-15
1 female 45+

Another quick note after looking at the tax assessor's list on Thomas Russell. It shows that the court records say that he started with 150 acres, and James started with 100. Apparently Thomas sold 50 acres between 1808-1810. But then added 90 acres between 1820-1822. Just a thought, but maybe that is when James died, and Thomas inherited the extra land (if James is indeed his father)?
Does anyone have any info on this James Russell?
Thanks, Derek Russell

RUSSELL, THOMAS - I am looking for info on Thomas Russell: I have him as being in the 1810, 1830, 1840, and 1850 census, and the tax assessor list from 1803 - 1825 as owning land on Beaver Creek in Wayne Co. He was born 1782-1787 in VA. and died 9/29/1856 in Wayne Co. (buried in Thomas Russell Cemetery, Beaver Creek, Parnell, Wayne Co., KY...if anyone knows where this is, that would be awesome). He married Mary Daffron on 4/18/1808 in Wayne Co. What I am looking for is the names of Thomas' parents. His exact birthdate and location. Any help would be appreciated. Derek Russell

SLAGLE, NANCY - Looking for parents of Nancy (Slagle) Gregory. She was born abt. 1860 in Wayne Co, KY, but does not appear on the Wayne Co. 1870 census as "Nancy Slagle". On September 13, 1878 she married Claiborn H. GREGORY. Their marriage bond states that Nancy was 21 years old. (Note: two years later in the 1880 census her age is listed as 20.) KEELON SLAGLE was listed as a witness to the marriage. (Note: There is no proof that Keelon was her father, but possibly an uncle or cousin.) Wm. G. ROYSDON was also listed as a witness. They were married by and at the home of A. ROYSDON. W. G. HUFFAKER was listed as the surety. The bond futher states that Nancy's mother was born in KY and place of father's birth "Unknown". (Does "Unknown" mean that they didn't know who Nancy's father was or just that they didn't know where he was born?) Nancy died between 1885 and 1887 and is buried in the Grant Roberts Cemetery. Any clue to her parents is appreciated. Marilyn Fisher
