Nicholas
Long was born in Caroline County, Virginia and moved to Scott County, Kentucky
in 1795 and was in Fayette County, Kentucky by 1801. His wife was Mary
Pickett. She died prior to 1810, possibly as early as 1799. Nicholas
moved to Campbell County, Kentucky in 1833 and died there October 13, 1846.
Kentucky tax list show him with four younger males that would have been born
about 1784, 1788, 1791 and 1798. Deed records in Kentucky associate
him with Gabriel, Hartwell C., Phillip, Richard P., Thomas and William Long.
Affidavits in his Revolutionary War pension file state that he had
sons; Gabriel and William Long and a daughter, Mary H. Caldwell, born 1786,
but do not mention any other children. These affidavits give the impression
that Nicholas only had the three chidren. I believe Nicholas was slo
the father of my ancestor, Richard Pickett Long, born 1784, as well as others,
but I have not proof. I would appreciate any information on this
family.
