Revolutionary War Soldiers


WELLS, Samuel

Of Scott County, Kentucky, who was a private in the Company commanded by Capt. Fleming of the Regt. commanded by
Col. Heath in the Virginia Line for the term of three years from 1777 - 1780.
Inscribed on the roll of Kentucky at the rate of eight dollars per month to commence on the 19 day of February 1829.

Certificate of Pension issued the 2and day of March 1829 and sent to Hon. R. M. Johnson, Senate U States.

On 21st July 1828, Saml Wells appeared in Scott County Court, he was aged 69 years.  Says he enlisted for three years
says he served his time out & was wounded in the Battle of Brandywine & honorably discharged.  That he was also at the
Battle of White Plains.  That he was discharged at Morristown, in Jersey.  He stated he had seven in his family, stated he
was old & infirm and can barely labor being nearly blind.  His wife 50 years old & can do  __ better, a daughter, who is a
widow & three children and his son 15 years old, all who can merely support themselves.  James Madison stated he was
a comrade of the soldier in the Revolutionary War.

The pension states that the soldier Samuel Wells died November 20, 1830.
