The Russell County Historical Society meets on the second Thursday of each month at 6p.m. central time in the community room of the Public Library in Jamestown. Exceptions to this are for Kentucky Humanities Council presentations.
We have events currently being planned.

p.m. Hugh Ridenour – A D-Day Tragedy
Russell Co. Public Library, Jamestown, KY.
Sponsored by the Kentucky Humanities Council, the Jane Lampton Chapter
NSDAR, the Russell County Historical Society, and the National
Endowment for the Humanities. Bring a friend! This tragic story
is taken from the diary of a young woman who marries her true love and
stands by him as he goes to war. D-Day and the events at Normandy
take his life. It is the journey of her marriage and widowhood and the
survival of his death upon which the story focuses. It is a
wonderful, tragic, historical story.
April 17, 2005 – 2 p.m. Sue Lynn Stone McDaniel – Archival Preservation Jamestown First Baptist Church, West Cumberland Avenue, Jamestown, KY. Sponsored by the Kentucky Humanities Council, the Jane Lampton Chapter NSDAR, the Russell County Historical Society, and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Learn how to protect those precious memories including pictures and textiles. Dr. McDaniel is the archivist for Western Kentucky University and considered an expert in her field.

Our society is publishing a newsletter four times per year free with membership. I hope everyone with ties to Russell County will join. We are also working on compiling a book called GENERATIONS - A Collection of 5 Generation Charts . We invite anyone who has ties to Russell County to submit their 5 generation chart to be included. We have about 75 submissions so far. Our goal is one hundred.

The Russell County Historical Society now has for sale RUSSELL COUNTY CEMETERIES VOLUME'S I AND II . Volume I is currently SOLD OUT and Volume II is available in limited quantities! The price is $15.00 including postage and handling per volume. The books contains over 1600 burials each and is every name indexed.
The third cemetery volume is now available at $15 for non members. Volumes I, II, and III can be purchased by sending a check or money order for $15.00 each to Russell County Historical Society, P.O. Box 544, Jamestown KY. 42629 ATTN: Cemetery Book Project. The volumes will be mailed out standard mail within 14 days of receipt.
Volume III has been reprinted with additions and available; anyone who purchased the first edition of the third volume will receive an update of any additions by mail.
The society has also obtained additional copies of their large coffee table hard cover book "Russell County History and Families". This book is over 300 pages and contains information on over 500 families. The cost of this books is $68.85 postage paid. Currently SOLD OUT.
